i can't imagine a list of 60's albums without at least one of the bands two best albums... music from big pink and the band, if you haven't listened, i recomend it, if you have and just forgotten then here's the reminder.

The "bad" end of your ratings spectrum is practically empty.

The masterpieces (5 stars) outnumber the average (2.5 stars) by more than 10 to 1. It should be the other way around ... surely

3 stars would be average. I know that's a bit high for average, but that's just the way I rate.

And I'm just very lenient. I hardly ever give bad scores.

Yes, Lumpy Gravy makes a whole lot of sense as the best album of the sixties. (sarcasm alert!)

I'm a huge Zappa fan and even I find Lumpy Gravy to be a piece of crap.....

Very cool you included Elton's "Empty Sky" which came out in the UK in '69, but Americans didn't hear until 1975. It's a fun album -- a step up from his 1967/68 demo songs, but still not quite at the "he's arrived" level of 1970.

I added it because I'm an awful completist. If I've listened to a few albums of an artist, I'd certainly want to hear and rate the rest. Though only the studio albums.

And I can't comment on the demo songs. I've never heard them

As a completist I would think you might want to include some very good albums by two fantastic folk artists of the sixties: Buffy Sainte-Marie and Phil Ochs. Both have flown under so many radars it's downright silly. At the height of the first round of Vietnam protests Ochs was seen as being just as important as the more historically celebrated Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, and wrote songs with more fire and political savvy than either. Buffy Sainte-Marie's early works have been seen as some of the most inspiring and influential (not to mention confrontational) efforts in the struggle for native American rights.

Yes, it is. I've noticed the typo too, but I'm just too lazy to fix it (just as I'm too lazy to fix several other typos I know of)

I personally thought it was a bit boring, actually. A few good songs, but overall, it just didn't really do it for me.
