Your Favorite Military Drama

I'm focusing on mostly modern military movies here, post-19th century. So I'm not including medeival flicks like Excalibur, or samurai flicks like Seven Samurai. Are there any great military flicks I'm missing?

i liked full metal jacket the best because of both it's simplicity and realism. it is one of the most accurate interpretations of the vietnam war, which seemed to procure some obscure movies (ya Apocalypse is great, but no way in hell it's realistic).

I go with All Quiet on the Western Front, which is truly excellent. A close #2 would be Stone's Platoon.

Apocalypse Now is IMO not such a great film. Good, but not amazing.

A suggestion: Kubrick's Paths of Glory would be interesting too.

Wow. A lot of people like Apocalypse Now. It's definitely one of the most watched DVDs in my collection. I think this is one of those instances in which the movie far surpasses the book (Heart of Darkness) from which it was based.

I've never seen Apocalypse Now, but your right its stealing this away! my favourite is by far is The Deer Hunter, you can't get any better.
