Which U. S. State would make the worst band name?

Alabama, Kansas, and (Little) Texas have been done, to my knowledge, and are therefore not included.

I'm really referring to stand-alones, i.e. Georgia Satellites and Washington Social Club don't count. Little Texas, however, stands mostly on the strength of the Texas, not the Little. Or maybe not.

Come On!! New Jeresy has all wrost band names bet! think about it! "ARE YOU READY TO ROCK WITH NEW JERSEY?!?!!!!" Now thats just ridicules!! It's so who-jor!

Worst of all would be New Jersey!

Vermont, New York, Virginia, Rhode Island, and Nevada could be good indie band names.

Maryland or Mississippi would be unlikely rock band names.

"he'll annoy!"

Anything with a "North" or "South" in the name.

"Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to rock out with ___________!"

After trying out all the states listed, I have to say that Utah is the worst fit.

I could see Utah being a great name for maybe a group of bitter ex-Mormons, though.

is there one called Iowa already?

(for band name, not judging the state :), i'm in the UK so i wouldnt know)

Best: Montana / Ohio
Worst: Massachussetts

Great idea for a list though

I don't see just an Iowa on the Ultimate band list. However, a search reveals 7 bands with Iowa included: Big in Iowa, Iowa Beef Experience, Iowa Ear Music Ensemble (ed: is this anything like chin music?), Iowaska, Univ. of Iowa Marching Band, University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One, Voices Iowa. Thanks for the praise; this evolved out of a conversation at work yesterday, after viewing a video by Kansas on VH1 Classic. Our consensus was definitely along the North/South route.

Either one of the Carolinas.

I find myself feeling oddly emphatic in my belief that "Oregon" is the worst. It doesn't roll off the tongue, the pronunciation is ambiguous, and it's somewhat awkward to yell at the top of your voice.

While I feel this reasoning would work for normal hard rock bands, I think that there are some band names for indie or alternative rock that are intentionally weird or awkward to say. I mean, "Neutral Milk Hotel" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, and how exactly do you pronounce the band name "!!!"? I think some of these could work as a normal rock band name and others could work as the name of a quirky rock band trying to be weird or dorky.

That said, I don't think Maine works well either way, so that's what I'm voting for.

It's not ambiguous if you liver here ;)

Oddly there *IS* a band called Oregon.

ooh, yes there is. also one called Alaska, quite prolific according to ubl. And a Utah! (exclamation theirs, not mine). er, and arizona. crap, I'll have to check the rest tomorrow.

how *does* one pronounce oregon correctly? gone or gun?

So is it OregIN or OregON ("in" or "on")? Or none of the above? And is the accent on the first syllable or the second?

OR-eh-gun
