Had to go with Siamese Dream and not just because I'm Chicagoish. :) Each song on that album standing alone is simply amazing. While I don't necessarily think of it as the greatest album where all the songs fit together perfectly, I can't think of a CD where all the songs are so well put together.
I'm only familiar with Second Toughest In The Infants, which wasn't quite good enough to make it. I'll research Dubnobass..whatchamacallit and see if it has enough recommendations to be considered (only because I've never heard it and have no idea of it's merits amongst people other than yourself). Thanks for the suggestion. Even if it doesn't make it, the title already makes me think it sounds interesting and worth checking out!
I don't know about Orbital. You have to realize one thing: I can't include every great 90's album can I? I suppose I could keep adding each and every suggestion that I find worthy but man, I have to work, I have to eat, go out with friends, get back together with my ex-girlfriend, sleep, and listen to music, do laundry, use the restroom occasionally, did I mention I have to eat?
Joking aside, I'll check in on some Orbital as well.
You definitely won't be disappointed, these albums are influential and important in the extreme.
lol, I understand only too well about the time thing...people eat me alive with suggestions on my trance lists, and I barely have a moment to myself as it is...
What a strange album. Man, that Beck kid sure has something in him, some sort of charisma that allows him to be so oddball and yet so damn fun to listen to all the same. He gives one a sense of invigoration, of liberty to be an excessive geek AND a genius, which is I guess what geeks wait to do all their lives. You got to hand it to him, he found his moment and made the most of it with "Loser".
Regarding "Sparkle And Fade". I've never taken much to Everclear. I've heard most of the album with "Santa Monica" on it (don't remember what its called) and what I believe is their first one (the one with Heroin Girl) and they never really grabbed me except for on occasion. I am really curious though, since you mention it even after looking at all the albums listed here, what makes Sparkle And Fade a premier choice in the same league or better as the rest of these?
yes, the album with santa monica and heroin girl is sparkle and fade... First off the thing that makes it a premier choice among these other albums to me is that, despite not having much of a taste for most 90's music and the fact that it sounds much like your typical 90's album, I can't get enough of it. What I believe really seperates sparkle and fade from most of the other stuff out there resembling it, is that it is overall a dark and whiny 90's album(much like most nirvana) but it still has a way of sounding upbeat and, unlike alot of the albums in question, well aware of the mood it's setting and exploits it... I may be talking out of my ass, but I find it hard not to when explaining why you favor an album beyond just enjoying it more... In the end it just seems to possess something no other similar-sounding album(and there are a lot) can accomplish.
Okay, so I looked around at some various reviews of it and while it rates good, about an average of 4 out of 5 stars, it doesn't quite hold up compared to the rest of the albums listed in terms of average rating. But really, the blame is on me since I haven't heard the album. If I'd heard it and found it good enough I would put it on here, but I just haven't. Sorry.
The only other album in a similar position is "No Code" by Pearl Jam. This is a personal selection. While it's not the very best album of the 90's, it's one of the 10 best in my opinion, so I included it. Perhaps if I heard Sparkle And Fade I would feel the same way, but as far as I know I've only heard 2 songs off of it.
If it's important enough to you, you could convince me to add it, but you'd have to get some other Listologists to tell me it deserves to be in the same company, or lead me to some top albums of the 90's lists by Listologists or critics which feature it.
I don't mean to sound so picky about this but it's hard for me to add the album mainly because I would feel like I would have to add about 50-100 others to be fair.
Thanks for the suggestion though! It makes me want to check it out some time!
oh I never wanted to push for adding it to the list... It was just friendly conversation, you asked and I told you, I'm very happy with my odelay vote anyhow, i think it's a better album. I don't need it on the list just for the hell of it... if I had wanted to vote for it that might be a different story, but i don't, so it's all good
You should put some rap albums on the poll. Here are a few suggestions.
"The Score" Fugees
"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" (You can guess the artist.)
"Butterfly" Mariah Carey
I know the last one isn't a rap album, but I had to put it.
I would add The Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse.
For sure. Thanks!
You might consider adding Built to Spill's Perfect from Now On (so I can vote for it). Great album.
Of course! Thanks!

Great album, great choice!
Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman should be considered, I think. As well as at least one Orbital album.
dubnobass is fantastic. I would vote it second best of the 90's (#1 would have to be Cardiacs - Sing to God)

Awesome!

for me it's a tough call between Odelay(beck) and Sparkle & Fade(everclear)... but since beck's is on the list I'll make it easy and say Odelay.
Odelay! Good choice!

Good to hear (or read). Odelay is a great choice. By the way, I like your film reviews!
