Wow, some great names here!

Hell this one is almost impossible. I went for Chuck Berry on the fact he gets overlooked too much but hell you can take out a couple of these (Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Billy Riley) and you have rock and roll. It all flows from here.

I agree; this is like the Old Testament: setting up the foundations, as well as being a great work in its own right! I added Riley, Cochran, and Vincent as personal favorites, although I would quibble and say that the latter two are quite underrated, and truly belong in any list of the greatest early rockers...

Vincent is very underrated. Cochran, I always considered a tad overrated because of Summertime Blues and his short recording career. Hell of a nice guitar player though. But you are right no need to quibble.

Wow, Johnny, your last comment could have been my own. I agree entirely. Cochran was nice, but Vincent has been robbed by history.

Shalom, y'all!

Points well taken. Vincent is the better of the two, but in my view, once you get past Summertime Blues, Cochran has a surprising number of really good rockers...

Whoops, I should have known better. Only one poster I could agree that much with - jgandcag!

Forgive the faux pas.
