Vancouver (well, Lower Mainland, anyway) has a drive-in theatre left. And I have a big ol' popcorn bown with a lid so I can make my own snack and flavour it however I want. Coupled with a double bill, I call that a good night out.
But the two I remember from my youth were the Eastside Drive-In (paved over and defunct now for 20 years with no remnants to even remind people that there used to be a drive-in there) and the Sundance Kid Drive-In (still operating!) both in the Toledo area. I was always thought the Sundance Kid was cool because it had 2 screens which faced each other across this huge parking area and each screen showed a double-feature making for 4 possible movies in one night.
Ah yes... the good old days when I didn't mind watching movies like The Groove Tube and/or The Kentucky Fried Movie 8 times each as a second or third billing. ~;^)
Yep. In fact, Tulsa still has an operating drive-in, the Admiral Twin, which was featured in Coppola's The Outsiders. It recently beat the bridges of Madison County in Hampton Inn's America's Favorite Landmarks contest. It is pretty groovy; I saw The Empire Strikes Back there (of course, I also saw Cool World there; yuck!).
The screens are back to back. The theater is right next to one of Tulsa's major highways, and I remember being glued to the window as my parents drove by, desperate to catch a snatch of whatever was playing.

Very cool.
Just one of the benefits of being old.
So you haven't been to the drive-in?
Of course...I voted in the affirmative.
Oh, I see. I thought you were speaking from the youngster's POV. :-)
I am without a dart an old fart.
According to Drive-Ins.com we still have 34 open drive-ins in Ohio. I know we have one still operating in Columbus called the South Drive-In but it's in a not-so-great part of town so I've never partaken.

Sounds like a cool place. Do their twin screens face each other as well?
