These top ten comedians were the same ones who made this same list in this same order on a four part Comedy Central panel show Hosted by current Stand-Ups Judy Gold, Dom Irrera, Greg Giraldo, and Mario Joyner, with special guest appearances by veterans like Richard Jeni, Richard Lewis, Phyllis Diller, Pat Cooper, and David Brenner. Choose you favorite for the so-accorded list, or name your own personal choose of best below.

Wow, no Hicks or Newheart...

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Shalom, y'all!

Oh Newheart was on the list, but not in the top ten. Which is weird, because like all comedians, Hicks developed his style from listening to and studying other comedians: Woody Allen, Bob Newheart, Richard Lewis, and, strangely enough, Jay Leno were some of his favorites. It's strange because in one of his recorded CDs, Hicks goes into a deafening rant about Jay Leno becoming a corporate sponsor for Doritoes and having some of the cheesiest fad celebrities on his show, like Joey Lawrence and Patrick Duffy. I think he was kind of disappointed with Leno when he started the Tonight Show. According to a book about Hicks called American Scream (By Cynthia True), Hicks thought Leno was one of the best comedians he ever saw while doing stand-up.

I was just listening to that yesterday -- considering the routine has Leno shoving an Uzi into his mouth while screaming "I USED TO BE FUNNY!", I'd say Bill was indeed a mite bit disappointed... :-)

Lol, yeah I guess so. It was a heavy bit. I'm not a Leno fan, but even I was like, "Jesus, Bill!"

Personally, I think Ellen DeGeneras should replace Roseanne Barr. I have also laughed harder at Ellen's stand-up than Roseanne, even though Barr had an excellent family sitcom, a lot better than the Cosby Show. I like Billy Cosby, but Roseanne's family had real problems and issues and dilemmas and dramas, Cosby Family had little quirks and fits and misadventures. But the best (Live) family sitcom to date is still Married With Children, nothing better than raunchy, biting satire to address a disfunctional family in the 1990s that couldn't care less either way.
And personally, Bill Hicks should replace Eddi Murphy. Eddie's a funny mother, but not nearly as gifted and edgy as Hicks was. Hicks was one of the truely gifted "rock-n-roll" comedians, like Kinison and Dice Clay. But at least Hicks was in the top 20, which is where Eddie should be. But not even Hicks could bump Woody Allen or Carlin or Rock.

I agree with almost everything--except that I can't fathom the situation in which one would laugh at DeGeneras. I WANT to like her (she seems likeable) but she's just painfully unfunny...like Jay Leno and Steve Allen (although Leno was funny years ago at least). I've seen her concert from Santa Barabara and tried to sit through her show. Anything you can recommend to get me to laugh?
