My favorite of the year was Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Of these it's almost a tie between Juno and There Will Be Blood, but I picked Juno by a hair.
For me it's gotta be TWBB, nothing else that year compares in the depth of content, and TWBB really tried to make a piece of great cinema, not something that would just sell well, which although may sound obvious, tell that to the people making a ridiculour amount of blockbusters created for one thing : Money.
As i say above to froboy, i do think There will be blood was the best. Oh yes its so rare these days to find a film maker trying to make art. Though i think there were to other fine examples of that this year No Country & Jesse James. I'm really excited to see Paul Thomas Anderson's other work, Boogie Nights Magnolia. I have seen punch drunk love but that was back in 2004 so could do with a rewatch.
What i think i liked the most was this : After hearing all the hype about Daniel Day Lewis' performance, i already expected to be impressed by that. But because it was a film about Oil, i expected to be bored by it and Day Lewis' be the only good thing about it, however i was so suprised to find every other aspect (score, other performances, direction, ect.) matched the level of Lewis' performance, all creating a fine fine piece of cinema
I really liked all the Oscar contenders, but there was always something about each movie I didn't like. Whether it be a supporting cast member or dialogue in a scene. I think Darjeeling hit everything out of the park.
Darjeeling was amaxing, i mean i'm a Wes Anderson fanboy but still it was outstanding. It was my fave of the year for a long while however, There Will be Blood took me so much by suprise, i expected to dislike this film , but it was so engaged, it had to get the top spot. thats not to take anything away from Darjeeling though at all
