These are just a few of my favorites so dont feel offended if I didnt put one of your favorites on.

Two words: Tina Weymouth
les claypool is absolutly amazing. and good job for pointing out bootsy collins. BUCKETHEAD ROCKS
I wasn't offended even though you didn't list ANY of the best bass players of all time. Flea? No, seriously, FLEA????
Stanley Clarke
Jaco Pastorius
Victor Wooten
Chris Squire
Tony Levin
John Paul Jones
Phil Lesh
Jack Cassady
John Entwistle
All rank ahead of anyone on your list.
Claypool's the only one who ranks with the above.....
Of these, I'll definitely go for Flea--and he isn't half bad as an actor either;)
Johnny Waco
He might not be half good either.
Victor Wooten- Béla Fleck & the Flecktones
John Entwistle- Who
Donald "Duck" Dunn- MGs (Stax)
James Jamerson- Funk Brothers (Motown)
Bootsy Collins- The JBs, Parliament, Funkadelic (P-Funk)
But c'mon... Jaco. (And if you can stand the mediocre kbps: lohr-dee gawd!)
Paul MCCartney should definitely be on this list and # 1! If you go to the excellent web site,The Evolution of Rock Bass Playing McCartney Style by Denis Alstrand you will see that Stanley Clarke,Will Lee,Sting, and Billy Sheehan all say what a great, melodic influential bass player Paul has always been. The 1992 Rolling Stone Album Guide also calls Paul a remarkable bass player. And he has come out # 1 of all rock bass players in three polls already,The Mister Poll,Rate Your Music and The Best of Everything site.
