Best Achievement in Directing (Poll...Who Should Win)

Author Comments:

Winner: Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain (2005)

At least you have the decency and common sense to nominated Best Directors with their Pictures for Best Picture. That's more than you can say for the stupid Oscars.

It wasn't my doing, these are the official Oscar nominations. If I made this list myself, Crash wouldn't be on it at all. Crash is the only movie on this list that I've seen and I didn't like it, there were certain scenes in the movie that I liked and thought were great but the movie as a whole was just awful.

Can't a director do a great job directing a not-so-great film hurt by a poor screenplay or bad acting?

I disagree with those who say the Best Picture nominees should match up exactly with the Best Director nods...

Interesting - I hadn't given it a whole lot of thought before. I suppose Baz Luhrmann did a great job directing Moulin Rouge , which I don't think was necessarily a great film.

Ang Lee, on the other hand, is wonderful and deserves both the best director title and best film.

I do believe that the two categories should probably match up pretty well, but I can understand at times why it does not. For example, I completely understand that most of the academy was probably baffled by Mulholland Drive, but was pleased they realized that David Lynch did a great job directing it...
