Movies I've Seen This Year That You Should Avoid Like The Plague! 2004

- 1. Big Fish: Attempts to be magical and epic, yet falls on it's face in it's delivery. Also, the otherwise talented Ewan McGregor's performance is lack lustre, featuring possibly the worst attempt at an American accent ever, which is bizarre, as in previous american roles (Eg. Velvet Goldmine) he was awesome.
- 2. Narc: While the acting is superb, the plot is equally inane. The openning scene leads you to believe that you're about to witness a great movie, but needless to say, you're not! It does have an aspect of 'gritty' realism, but my friend Matt put it best when he said "Seven did this all before...and a lot better".
- 3. Dreamcatcher: This film could have been great if it focussed more clearly on it's comedic qualities (like Dog Soldiers for example), but after the first guy dies, it's pretty much a certified cure for insomnia. Evil Slips Through. 'nuff said!
- 4. Below: Goodness me! I fell asleep in this one. But I can still tell you that it's faults are that it attempts to multi-genre (i.e. it's a murder mystery - ghost story - submarine drama)and fails miserably! There is only one good piece of cinematography in the whole thing, and that's due to manta rays. The acting is pathetic and the music score is equally terrible. In short, this movie is a big mistake.
- 5. Bad Boys II: Before I have a go at this one I'd like to say that it gets a few marks for effort, and the car chase scene is pretty hot. I feel sorry for it in a way. Ok, so the main problem with this film is that it's too long for what it is. i.e. there's no real sense of developement at all. Everything in this film has been done before, and better. To summarise, it goes like this; Cheap humour, bit of action, pathetic piece of drama, another bit of action, sick joke, action, cheap humour ending. In short, it's an adult film for kids, and Will Smith can do much better.

We waste too much time watching bad movies!

Just a small comment on Dreamcatcher. Any movie involving aliens bursting from a characters bum, in my opinion, has no reason being plot driven at all.
