The Four Movies Worth Watching *Despite* Keanu Reeves

Tags:
  • Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - This seems to be the only role Keanu has been truly good at playing...perhaps because it's not that much of a stretch for him?
  • Matrix, The - Extremely enjoyable movie...other than Bill & Ted movies, I think this is one of the movies where Keanu's acting comes across as *least* grating on my nerves.
  • Much Ado About Nothing - Clearly Keanu's absolutely worst acting...ever. He was nominated for a Razzie this year on this performance, but Pauly Shore managed to do just a little worse and win over Keanu. Nonetheless, his smallish role fails to completely ruin this absolutely wonderful Shakespeare (unless you're decidedly anti-Branagh for some reason)
  • Parenthood - This great comedy makes the 10 minutes of Keanu almost bearable...

Keanu Reeves has had five nominations for Razzie awards, and rightly so. Despite his horrible acting, some movies actually are worth seeing, despite this embarassing display of "anti-acting". Here, in my opinion, are those movies...try as I might, I couldn't justify coming up with a fifth to add here.

Oops, I mean to say "...are all worth watching despite Keanu Reeves"

Wow...yeah, despite his atrocious acting ability, he does seem to choose some good scripts.

Oh, and by the way, Phreak, I agree with you about Keanu in "BAT'sEA."

-To be honest, I have not seen The Gift or My Own Private Idaho. I'm unfamiliar with The Gift. With Idaho, I think I've avoided it due to my lack of enthusiasm for Gus Van Sant, and the fact that Keanu is in it.
-With Bram Stoker's Dracula and Dangerous Liasons, I'll have to watch them again, as I have no recollection on how Keanu's acting affected the movie. (This is a good sign; if I can't remember how bad Keanu's acting was, it may not have been that bad...or perhaps I purged the painful memories?)
-I'll have to outright disagree with you on Speed.

So you are saying that you don't think Speed is worth watching?

Yes, this is precisely what I'm saying. This movie is not "worth watching despite Keanu Reeves" :)

The River's Edge and Speed are both GREAT.

Again, I will submit that Speed is *not* a movie "worth watching".

Amen. I hate that movie.

You DID know that buses could jump bridges that are out, right?
