If you have any other suggestions make one and i will update the chart

I support that Secretariat, the greatest of all, is the greatest athelete. Secretariet won the 3 time durby including the kentucky durby winning by a length of 31-feet. Is this a miracle or is it just God in disguise as a horse. History has set its stage and we will never see ANY horse who will set record. R.I.P Secretariat.

Wow, all american and males, how surprising.

I confess that I also have U.S. (and Canadian :-) males leap to mind when considering such a question. I'd be curious to hear your suggestions for females and non-US contenders.

I find myself limited to soccer (Hamm, Pele, Maradona - I don't really follow soccer), tennis (Graf, either Williams, Navratalova (sp?), Lendl, Borg) and track & field (FloJo, Devers) in who leaps to mind. But I've only put about 30 seconds of thought into this so I'm sure I could come up with others given more time. Hard not to lean towards that which we are most exposed to, I guess.

I wish I could name a few takraw players - those guys are incredible.

I geuss wayne gretzky is american if you ignore the fact he was born in canada.

Same for shaq And Mario

I just read an interesting article on Jerry Rice . . . He's the only wide receiver to play into his 40s, and he's still damned effective. Something like 35 TDs since his 35th birthday, and if he keeps to his current pace he'll be in the top 20 for yards gained this season. I might be remembering that wrong, but it's for good reason that I often heard commentators refer to him as "The Incomparable Jerry Rice" in his prime.

That is true Jerry Rice is a amazing athele and definitly the greatest WR of all time maybe even the greatest football player period. I am a 49ers fan and i was mad that he went to the raiders but i definitly dont hate a guy who brought my team to the super bowl constantly. I picked wayne Gretzky because no player in the history of hockey has even come close to putting up his numbers and i think no person will ever come close. As well gretzky made evry player around him better.

I'm sure that this list could be endless, but two additions I would add: Miguel Indurain and Lance Armstrong have dominated the Tour de France in their prime like no other riders.

I decided to put lance up their because he may be the most influential athelte today...
