Though John Lennon is my idol and my favorite Beatles, I wouldn't say he was the frontman, nor were any of the Beatles. That's part of the beauty of the band is that all four sang lead regularly and there were no shining individuals, because they all four were stars.
1. (Sir) Mick Jagger
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Paul Rodgers (Free)
4. Roger Daltrey (Who)
5. Lou Reed (Velvet Underground)
Unfortunately, (IMHO) Kurt Cobain and Nirvana have been greatly overrated through his sad death, and a very natural (human) tendency towards sentimentality, similar in nature to that experienced wih James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Lee, JFK, and others, including (perhaps) John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix. There are many equal (and some better) than Cobain/Nirvana who receive less recognition.
I don't even think that John Lennon was the frontman of the Beatles (they didn't have one).
Did you consider Freddie Mecury, Michael Stipes, John Fogerty, Morrissey, Marc Bolan ?
Well, I think another thing Cobain had going for himself was that he was innovative. Those bands that you think are equal or better probably drew some heavy influence from Nirvana. I really like Nirvana, but I'm still tempted to agree with you that they're overrated, if only because of the heaps of critical acclaim they've garnered.
Sorry, but this argument begins and ends with Mick Jagger. Every other frontman in his wake has tried to walk and strut in his footsteps. Some have succeedly only midly.
David Lee Roth was the front man of VanHalen, not Eddie
That's funny... and while I'm here - it's "Jimi", not Jimmy. Jeez!
missing Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden
yes.
Great poll!!
