There is no other common English language word besides angry and hunry than end in "gry".

I believe he was [mis]quoting a stupid joke / brainteaser. Here's the actual joke, as quoted from www.rinkworks.com/brainfood/groaners.shtml: "Think of words ending in "gry." Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day."

The answer to this is "language." The trick is to ignore the first two sentences of the puzzle, as they are only there to throw you off.
