In 1986, the IOC decided to stop holding the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in the same year, and in 1994, Lillehammer in Norway was the first to not be in the same year as the summer games.
The host of the 2018 Winter Olympics will be chosen in July 2011 - the chosen city is Pyeongchang, in South Korea.
