- The 1980's were host to the biggest horror boom ever, thanks mostly to home video. That said, there were a LOT of films to decide from in compiling the list, so it represents the "best" films, but there are plenty more amazing flicks that I can't exactly call "great." I'll be making a list for those hidden gems in the near future.
- The Shining (1980, Stanley Kubrick)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984, Wes Craven)
- Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn (1987, Sam Raimi)
- The Beyond (1981, Lucio Fulci)
- Maniac! (1980, William Lustig)
- Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984, Joseph Zito)
- The Dead Zone (1983, David Cronenberg)
- The Lost Boys (1987, Joel Schumacher)
- Christine (1983, John Carpenter)
- Night of the Creeps (1986, Fred Dekker)
- Poltergeist (1982, Tobe Hooper)
- The Fly (1986, David Cronenberg)
- Return of the Living Dead (1985, Dan O'Bannon)
- Fright Night (1985, Tom Holland)
- The Mutilator (1985, Buddy Cooper)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987, Chuck Russell)
- The Changeling (1980, Peter Medak)
- The Thing (1982, John Carpenter)
- Opera (1987, Dario Argento)
- Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988, Tony Randel)
- House (1986, Steve Miner)
- The Burning (1981, Tony Maylam)
- Night of the Demons (1988, Kevin Tenney)
- An American Werewolf in London (1981, John Landis)

Oh how much do I love that Night of the Creeps got love?
But where is April Fools Day?
I'm a big fan of April Fool's Day, it was on my list of considerations. It will certainly be near the top of my list of forgotten gems, and lost classics I mention at the top. In any other decade it would definitely make the top 25, unfortunately its up against some pretty fierce competition, and doesn't quite make the cut.
Night of the Creeps is seriously underrated. Its one of the wittiest and well written horror films ever! Plus Tom Atkins is a Grade A Badass! I had the pleasure of seeing a double feature of it and Monster Squad with a Fred Dekker Q&A after. The special edition DVD is finally being released in September. THRILL ME!!
Good list, though I'd probably bump up Poltergeist and The Thing into the Top 10.
