I will list here only my favorite tracks, though even these are not that great: "A Lovely Pear", "Spacewalking Your New Way Home", "Lions on a Banner", and "Did You Know That the Bible Have Answers?" I didn't listen to most of their tracks all the way through; for many of them that were less interesting I just jumped through the track to see if there were any interesting parts. Some of the longest tracks are: "Hypnosis, Drugs, and Mind Control (The Beginning: A Touch)" at 8 hours, and "He is Cruel and Moves with Great Cunning" at 13 hours, and "Even to the Edge of Doom" at 100 hours long in a single mp3 file.

- Kings of Time by Magyar Posse: God yes. Godspeed You Black Emperor + Ennio Morricone = Magyar Posse.
- Saint Symphna by Gang Gang Dance: Alien pop music.
- Fodt til a Herske by Mortiis: Early cosmic gothic music, 1993. The second track is pretty good.
- The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monae: Quite impressive for mainstream pop!
- The Ascension: The Sequel by Glenn Branca: Exactly what you would expect.
- Die Geburt Des Dionysos Christos by Hermann Nitsch: Meh.
- Voices of Anxious Objects by Ken Butler: Pretty sweet.
- Doctor Atomic Symphony by John Adams: Since I can't tolerate opera, I'm glad John Adams adapted his recent opera to symphony form. The music sounds very much as though Adams was hired to write a soundtrack for a movie. The Adams sound is very much there, but the content is more... movie soundtrackish. The opening to the third movement is the only part that sounds exactly like Adams' paradigmatic pieces like Harmonielehre. The disc also contains "Guide to Strange Places," which is typical romantic post-minimalist John Adams.
- Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus: Diverse snapshots of laptop art.
- Kaleidoscalp by Buckethead: Hit and miss, but at least more interesting than Dream Theater now.
- Black Clouds & Silver Linings by Dream Theater: Nah.
- Before We Were Born by Bill Frisell: See, this is what I love about Piero Scaruffi. I can pick any album at random from any genre that he has rated 7.5 or higher and be guaranteed a great listening experience. I can't do that with any other critic I've found.
- Floodplain by Kronos Quarter: Yeah, great stuff.
- Oversteps by Autechre: Closer to ambient than they've been in a long time. Sounds like a more daring Boards of Canada. Still, one of their least interesting albums.
- A/Rhythmia by Alarm Will Sound: The new music ensemble performs pieces by Gordon, Nancarrow, Birtwistle, Autechre, and more. Gordon's piece is, you know, a rock version of Steve Reich. The Nancarrow piece is lovely nonsense. The Birtwistle piece if all bursts of horns and instruments turned into horror music textures. A favorite was the 1:51 piece of Josquin Des Prez, which sounds a bit like something Moondog might have written. The Autechre cover ("Cfern" from Confield) is fascinating and really shows off what a true artist Autechre is.
- Blakroc (2009) by Blakroc: Rap-rock with live instruments and live vocals. An impressive lineup of contributors, but mostly boring.
- Realism (2009) by The Magnetic Fields: Trivial songs by someone with lots of talent.
- Sekunden (2007) by Swod: Some uninspiring piano minimalism backgrounded by noisy nonsense.
- One Step More And You Die (1997) by Mono: Yeah, okay.
- Video Controlled Robot (2008) by The Parlotones: Meh.
- Vivian Girls (2009) by Vivian Girls: Meh.
- Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Paul Williams: Just like The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- +/- (2009) by Buke and Gass: Very fun. Good, loud songwriting ala The White Stripes.
- Burning the Blue Sky Black (1996) by Asianova: Yup, pretty good.
- Love Like a Veiled Threat (1995) by Asianova: Spiritual ethnic dark-ambient. Similar to Voice of Eye.
- Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus (1944) by Olivier Messiaen: While this may be full of music ideas according to musical theory, it's not all that interesting to listen to, at least not today. Maybe it was innovative at it's time, I don't know.
- Montezuma (2006) by Shogun Kunitoki: A cross between Neu and Steve Reich. Enjoyable.
- Black Tar Prophecies Vol. 1, 2, 3 (2006) by Grails: Quiet, inventive world music with rock influences. Unique.
- Death Magnetic (2008) by Metallica: There are no ideas here. New Megadeth albums are better.
- Contra (2010) by Vampire Weekend: Quite good retro-pop.
- La Novia (2000) by Acid Mothers Temple: Only the title tracks matters, but it's a doozy of psychadelic world music explorations.

- Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle (2009, song) by Bill Callahan: The vocals are too much in the foreground for me.
- Arden Fevers (2006, folk) by Tanakh: Mellow yet gothic folk melodies.
- Fordlandia (2008, minimalism) by Johann Johannsson: A lot like Max Richter.
- Viroulegu Forestar (2004, minimalism) by Johann Johannsson: Sleepy and subdued, but pleasant.
- Luminosa (2001, choral) by Libera Boys Choir: Haunting choral interpretations of classical works done in the "modern" style (thus, it sounds a bit like Karl Jenkins' Adiemus). My favorite was track 3, an interpretation of the 2nd movement to Beethoven's 7th symphony.
- 1983 (2006, laptop experimentation) by Flying Lotus: An impressive laptop work, but fleeting nonetheless.
- Gutter Tactics (2009, experimental rap) by Dalek: Yeah, pretty much what you expect. Oddly, the last four tracks are probably the best.
- Cybion (2009, prog symphonic metal) by Kalisia: Sounds like a bunch of kids playing with cool new toys. They have no idea how to write music. It's just a random string of nonsense. (Of course, that's what many people feel about some of my favorite albums, like Foust and Trout Mask Replica.)
- Secret Machines (2008, alt rock) by The Secret Machines: Ugh. Is this really the same band that composed Now Here is Nowhere?
- Chinese Democracy (2008, metal) by Guns 'N' Roses: None of the tracks has the hook, drive, or authenticity of any track on Appetite for Destruction. After about 5 tracks I realized I'd have to have an open mind and try to find the track I disliked the least. It might be the Smashing Pumpkins-esque "Scraped." Most of the worst tracks in Axl's career are to be found here.

The goodness, I'm not hearing it.
Scaruffi sometimes has mad opinions, but the majority of his are so spot-on I tend to over look the Dubi Dam Dam's of his reviews.
Say Luke, any chance you'd ever create a 'Greatest Classical' or 'Greatest Jazz' list, even as just a rough guide, because I found your rock list very helpful in pinpointing some classics. I know you have a hectic schedule and whatnot (btw, really dig CommonSenseAthies), but I and I'm sure many other listologists would appreciate such a list/s. =)
Probably not, sorry! Scaruffi does have his own lists for those genres, and AfterHours is working on some Scaruffic lists for those genres, too.
