I shall venture a guess:
Jaws?
You are correct, sir!
13 has got to be Towering Inferno.
13 is The Towering Inferno!!!
Some wild guesses: 7 is either Starman or K-PAX. 8 is either Wargames or that movie I saw on HBO when I was a lot younger about these college kids play this assassin game with suction cup darts except for one that starts using real bullets. Perhaps Phoebe Cates was in it?
Hey, Jim,
You're on the right track genre-wise with your guess at 7. And your on the right track title wise ('game') with your guess at 8. But unfortunately both guesses are wrong. Both of these films are quite well known.
I'm willing to bet your thinking of T.A.G. (The Assasination Game) with Linda Hamilton, although the similar Gotcha! with Anthony Edwards and Linda Fiorentino is much better, IMHO.
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
Damn you're good. T.A.G. it is. I don't think I've seen Gotcha!, although I have no doubt that a movie with Fiorentino as lead is better than a movie with Hamilton (who I also like, but a bit less) as lead.
Just some stabs in the dark....
"A little pig goes a long way" - is this Babe?
"Small Town. Big Crime. Dead Cold." - this sounds like Fargo
"This is Benjamin. He's a little worried about his future." - sure sounds like The Graduate.
"Play at your own risk." - Too obvious, but is this The Game?
"Fifty million people watched, but no one saw a thing." - I have no idea, but it sure sounds interesting!
Babe, Fargo and The Graduate are correct!!! The Game is incorrect but the film does have Game in the title.
23. is most likely the Graduate
11. In the name of The Father
18. Babe?
20. Network?
1. Midnight Cowboy?
In The Name Of The Father and Network are correct. Buddy, beat you to Babe and The Graduate. Midnight Cowboy is incorrect but a very good guess!!!
#10 is The Big Chill.
#19 is Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Both answers are correct. Good job, Bertie!!! :-)
I recognised my first two, but this one is a guess based purely on content. #12 sounds like DR STRANGELOVE.
Wow, bertie! That's a really good guess. And it's correct!!! :-) GOod job!
25 - As Good As It Gets?
8 - Jumanji?
25 is correct. 8 is wrong. From previous comments I've intimated that 8 has the word 'Game' in the title. Good job, Lorelei!
Sorry -- missed that clue! The Crying Game, perhaps?
Cool idea for a new game!
A few shots:
6. Armageddon
15. Reds
17. Prizzi's Honor
21. Nell or Children of a Lesser God
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
6 is incorrect. But a very funny guess. :-) 15 is incorrect but you are pointing in the right direction. 17 is correct and and 21 is Children of a Lesser God so you got that one two. Without a little though I think you can easily get 15.
#21 Saving Private Ryan
#14 Snake Eyes
Meant #28 not #21.
Woo-hoo! 28. Saving Private Ryan is correct! Snake Eyes is wrong but a very good guess.
A few guesses, but they may be way off:
1 - The Hustler (? the obvious guess)
2 - Fiddler on the Roof?
4 - JFK?
5 - The Longest Day?
6 - Deliverance?
9 - American Graffiti?
14 - Quiz Show? (I'm not sure of this one - could be Snake Eyes)
15 - Doctor Zhivago!!
24 - Broadcast News??
26 - Cat on a Hit Ton Roof ... er Hot Tin Roof
27 - Mississippi Burning (full points for an obscurity :)
Lorelei, I don't mean to offend but I need you to be honest. Did you look up these guesses or are these off of the top of your head?
Actually my mother, sister, brother, and I collaborated. My mom should get most of the credit!! :)
All of your guesses are correct. I've added a few more...
31 - Field of Dreams?
Yep!
I guess this was in honor of the re-release: #7 is E.T.
Yep!
I'm pretty sure about this one:
#32 - The Insider
This one I am less sure about:
#30 - Animal House or PCU
The Insider is correct. The other guesses are not. But Animal House was made within a year of the correct answer.
"Play At Your Own Risk" - The Crying Game, right?
the above post refers to 8, for convenience's sake.
also... #30 is Breaking Away, right? If it's not, Breaking Aaway is still one beautiful movie. Does the Hooiser State proud.
You are correct on both counts.
If 8 isn't the Crying Game, here are my two guesses, in order of which I think is likeliest:
Jumanjii
Witchboard.
Also, here are my two favorite, cheesiest taglines:
The coast is toast
and
The ball is back
Anyone know the movies?
Dan hinted that the word "game" is in the title of #8.
I've got guesses for your offerings:
Volcano
and
Rollerball
WAIT!
I'm sorry, "the ball is back" is from Phantasm II! I think...
Right on both! Super!
Only 2 left and they're in bold! Also, if you look at the movies already guessed correctly you can see a definite pattern and should be able to use that information to help divine the other two.
I'm not sure about this pattern, but I'm fairly sure that #29 is "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." No clue about the other one though.
Yep. Only one more needs to be answered and then I'll ask the extra secret bonus question.
I'm firing in the dark here, but is 3 an Indiana Jones movie?
Yes.
Gonna guess which one?
Is that a no?
lol! Well, I will! Would it be "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?
You are correct, sir!
Now for the bonus question...
What two things do all of these movies have in common?
This is just a guess, but I think they were all nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and they all lost...
Hey, I think he's right! This was a cool list, dgeiser13. I think I'll make one of my own.
I look forward to it!
Well, apparently I need to make my bonus questions a little harder. You got it right! I promise, the seed at the core of my next quiz will not be guessed in 9 minutes. :-)
