- 10 Stars ~ One of The Best Movies Ever Made
- 100% of this movie works. Every scene was brilliant and an integral part of the movie. Typically 2 or 3 of these movies are made per century.
- This rating is reserved for the best movies ever made. You might see one of these every 20 years or so. If a movie is created that is the equal of the best movies ever made then I would give it this rating. So far I've only been able to come up with 2, Citizen Kane and Seven Samurai. And Citizen Kane's up for re-election so he better watch his step.
- 9 Stars ~ A Fantastic Movie.

- Approximately 80-89% of this movie works. Typically 2 or 3 of these movies are made per year.

- 7 Stars ~ A Good Movie.
- Approximately 70-79% of this movie works. Typically 12 or so of these movies are made per year.
- After I've finished watching a film and I've let it sink in for awhile the first thing I ask myself when rating the movie is Was That A Good Movie? If I consider the movie to be Good then it'll get a rating of 7 or above and if it's not Good it'll get a 6 or below. Most of the time it's fairly easy for me to answer this question. I can enjoy the heck out of a movie and still realize that it's not a Good movie. Sometimes I recommend movies to others that I know aren't Good movies. That's OK. Just because a movie isn't Good doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. Most movies aren't Good movies.
- 6 Stars ~ An OK (Good) Movie
- Approximately 55-69% of this movie works. Typically 25 or so of these movies are made per year.
- As a whole the movie was OK and the good scenes slightly to mostly outnumbered the bad.
- 5 Stars ~ An OK (OK) Movie
- Approximately 46-54% of this movie doesn't work.
- This movie is equal parts good and bad.
- 4 Stars ~ An OK (Bad) Movie
- Approximately 55-74% of this movie doesn't work.
- As a whole the movie was OK and the bad scenes slightly to mostly outnumbered the good.
- 3 Stars ~ A Bad Movie
- Approximately 75-87% of this movie doesn't work.
- After I've decided that a movie is not Good I then ask myself Well, Was It Bad? A lot of the time the answer is No, It Was Just OK. If for some reason I can't even bring myself to call a movie OK then it falls into the Bad category and is assigned 3 stars or below.
- 2 Stars ~ An Awful Movie
- Approximately 88-99% of this movie doesn't work.

- 1 Stars ~ One of The Worst Movies Ever Made
- Nothing in the movie works.
- If 10 Stars is reserved for the Best Movies Ever Made then 1 Star is reserved for the converse of that, the Worst Movies Ever Made. I can't imagine ever giving a movie 1 star because I know I'll probably never watch a movie that bad.
