Ambitious! It looks like a boatload of work, and I can certainly forgive you giving up on including comments with your lists (I still miss 'em) after embarking on such a massive undertaking. Can't wait!
Definitely a boatload. I've been working on it here and there for 6 weeks. The parsing and adding of points is actually going to end up being the easy part.
Also, I hope to reinstate commenting again real soon although I can't say my lack of commenting is directly related to that.
One question I had was...
I know that lists have an overall size limit. Is the limit based on the size of list content and author comments combined? Or do they each have a separate size limit?
I don't think my Author Comments area is going to grow much more. But the List content area might end up being pretty massive at least in a vertical sense. Overall character count might not be too bad.
The limit is 65,000 characters, and each list and comment gets its own limit - they aren't additive, so I think you'll be all set. Good luck with the parsing! I hope it goes quickly for you.
Oh, this is going to be a very long project. Now that my computer is fixed I'm going to try and step it up so I can be done by the time the Best of 2004 lists come out. So far I've only processed the top 10 lists of around 20 critics. There's alot more to go. But I'm trying to make this the most comprehensive one I've ever done just to see how it plays out.
