Yes, I know some of you might like these movies, but I have to tell you... they bored the hell out of me.

Okay here's five terrible pictures.

  1. Jurassic Park Lost World
  2. Batman and Robin
  3. Breakdown
  4. Armageddon
  5. Mac and me

Hey guys, I haven't seen all the movies on your lists, but I agree with all the ones I have. But a quick suggestion for anon. Why not register and start your own lists? Even with a screen name, you're still basically anonymous.

I suspect you are one of the many people who didn't realize that STARSHIP TROOPERS is one big in-joke. The extreme right-wing politics, the in-your-face larger-than-life characters, the whole movie is a send up of the Robert Heinlein novel on which it was based. It's not meant to be taken seriously. Seen this way, it's actually quite a good movie. Would you like to know more?

I saw this movie while intoxicated and laughed my butt off. How anyone could take all the fascism stuff seriously is beyond me. If anything, I enjoyed a movie more because of it.

Bertie, excellent insight on Starship Troopers. I remember that when it was in the theaters, people who understood the movie thought it was hilarious and great; however, people who expected a straight forward sci fi flick were extremely disappointed. I loved the movie, and when I read your reply ending with "would you like to know more," I laughed.

No, Jim, Heinlein's STARSHIP TROOPERS wasn't a satire - or if it was it was an exremely subtle one. In the novel we are supposed to take seriously a political system in which, to earn full citizenship and have a vote, one must have seen military service. The military life, or, more exactly, the life of active combat, is glorified: dialogue sample: "Come on, you apes! ya wanna live forever?" The novel caused a furore in fandom when first published, but it won a Hugo Award. The movie isn't the first send-up it provoked, there's also the novel BILL, THE GALACTIC HERO by Harry Harrison.

Actually the line you quoted was a paraphrase of something attributed to Marine Corp legend and Medal of Honor winner, Sargent Dan Dailey. During the Battle of the Belleau Woods in WWI. Dailey is alleged to have shouted to his Marines while leading them to attack into the teeth of heavy machinegun fire, "C'mon you sonsabitches, do you want to live forever."
Not germane to your discussion of Heinlien's fascination with fascism but worth knowing.

I eventually got off my butt and had a look at my copy of the book. Turns out that what I quoted isn't a line of dialogue but a superscription to Chapter One. Heinlein attributes it to "Unknown platoon sargeant, 1918." - Yes, he says "unknown", which I will charitably suppose must mean that he didn't know, not that nobody knows. Thanks for the extra info.

The worst film I recall in past few years was STRIP TEASE. If you are wondering why any sane person would have wanted to see this stinker, I can only plead that the movie was based on a Carl Hiaasen novel.

My vote for worst movie ever is The Avengers. Taken together with Batman and Robin, makes you wonder what on earth happened to Uma Thurman.

Omg you are really stupid if you dont love Paulie Shore all my friends and I love him he is so funny and hot. omg I have seen Son in Law like a million times, and Biodome so watch um and i know you will love them!
