Wierdest movie I've seen in a while

Shakespear's Titus Andronicles in a "contemporary?" setting, with Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lang among others. It worked with Romeo and Juliet but this one was a little off the wall for me.

I just read Ebert's review and "weird" sounds like an understatement. I almost added it to my "to see" list since it scraped by with a "fresh" rating on "Rotten Tomatoes", but I think I'll have to give it a miss.
"Titus" not worth the time, even when you have nothing to do. Btw havent logged on in a long time--love the new look!
Titus dors not need to be missed by anyone! It is a great movie.
All movies appeal to some, or else they wouldn't have been made. (Although I can think of a few exceptions--"Summer Job" being one, I suffered thru 2/3 of it only because a freind had a one line 15 second part in it). So I am sure "Titus" has some fans too. I just felt the dripping symbolism sometimes was there just to be there instead of for a purpose. But, all people have varieties of taste--thats what makes the world interesting. My apologies to all who liked Titus. I shall refrain from saying it was a bad movie and instead say, as I taught my children, when they thought dinner was lousy, "It did not appeal to me."
I don't think you have to apologize to anybody. So far only two people have found it Listworthy (and our occassionally-pot-stirring jblack isn't one of them :-).
And while I personally tend to stick safely to the "it did not appeal to me" camp, we have plenty of folks that aren't shy about making value judgements (see exhibit A), so fire away!
Oh, I had to test your "all movies appeal to some" theory. Here are my results:
Looks like you're right.
Thanks! I'm really pleased with how it's been received so far. Getting it deployed was fairly grueling, but I'm just about recovered and I'm starting to get more active on my Listology "to do" list.
The best movie critic in the world liked it also Jim. Roger Ebert. Do I stir pots?
:-) You have been known to occassionally make a controversial statement or two, so I think that counts as stirring the pot. Which is cool - life gets boring otherwise. The cream rises to the top. The rice sticks and burns. And all other kinda of bad metaphorical consequences. I know pot-stirred can be viewed as an insult, but that was not my intent.
I saw Ebert's review. I enjoy his reviews, but find him to be hit-or-miss. I've rented some real dogs on his endorsement. He's certainly the most famous movie critic, but I don't know if I'd say best.
Even though they are done by different people, I do tend to like the Salon reviews, and they panned it. But most critics liked it (if barely).
Still, I'll probably skip it because I'm not a big fan of the play, so I'm having a hard time getting excited for the movie.
Hey, Jim! I'm interested in knowing what movies you rented based on Roger Ebert's upturned thumb which turned out to be dogs...
smarty butt.
jeff, did he already answer this one?
I think Jeff is probably referring to this extended rant I posted yesterday regarding Red Planet. My wife and I saw it two days ago, and we agree that it's possibly the worst movie either of us have ever seen (not counting Plan-9ish entries). Turns out, Ebert liked it (link's in the rant). Unbelievable.
He also liked The World Is Not Enough, which is inconceivable to me. Possibly the most boring Bond ever (although The Man With the Golden Gun was probably at bit worse).
He also liked Bait and Any Given Sunday, neither of which I liked, but since they did have their moments I'll cut him some slack there.
Just out of curiousity how many stars does he give a movie he likes?
I'm not sure what the cutoff is. But I know three stars is "good", because there's is a "Thumbs Up" on the box of Bait.
i was looking over his reviews. 2 1/2 stars of lower is bad. 3 stars or more is good. i know i disagree with ebert alot too. typically i like movies he doesn't. i've never watched a movie based on his positive appraisal and then not liked it.
