Critic, I am not questioning your choices. I too go with Who Sells Out as their best. I also applaud the absence of Tommy from the list as Tommy finally found its right medium on the broadway stage. My question and it really is a comment as I know grammatically it is correct but doesn't the title of this list seem a little strange?

You're absolutely right. I've chopped the odd "the" from the title; it doesn't look nearly as strange any more.

I'm a bit surprised to find somebody else who favor Sells Out over Who's Next. We're a rare breed, you know.

I couldn't agree more about Tommy. The album has some great individual songs, but the 'concept' falls quite short of the mark. I think it is a tragedy that the Who of Tommy is the Who most people know. I can't help but think of the wild, crazy band with some of the best singles the rock world has ever heard. Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy is the Who I know and love (left off of the list since I wasn't counting compilations).

I am surprised that both of you would leave the Tommy album off any "best of" list for this band. I too felt that a great deal of the public's view of the WHO was unfairly colored by the album and it's theme approach. This was mostly due to American FM playlists more than the band's efforts. Even with all it's faults Tommy was very well crafted and moved rock into here-to-for unexplored areas. These areas were explored ably by the likes of Bowie and Queen to name a few. It's your list critic, but I personally would have to include Tommy on any WHO list.
