Man, now I can see why I took so long to do this list: it was painful! Even expanding to fifteen leaves me feeling somewhat pained over certain exclusions (Chinatown, Nashville, Pulp Fiction, Hud, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff?, Cool Hand Look, Deliverance, the list is endless!). But anyway, here it is. Now I've got to go reexamine other listologists' favorite movies because I have a new understanding of the difficulty of making one of these cursed things...

Ah, one of the brave ones to stick a definitive personal list out here on Listology! Welcome, Johnny!
I'm still pondering your thought-provoking list, although I can say I am impressed. While your list is quite different from my own, I can honestly say i would enjoy seeing any of these films again, and I can't say that about too many list of this nature. Good stuff.
I especially love the high showing both Citizen Kane and Touch of Evil earned on your favorites. I only saw Touch of Evil for the first time earlier this year, but it is quickly becoming a favorite.
Shalom, y'all!

Thanks lester. I did notice that we both rated Kane and Casablanca pretty highly, so that was cool. Yeah, Touch of Evil is often considered the last classic film noir, and if it is, what a way for a genre to go out! It really is, in my mind, nearly the equal of Kane, just on a smaller scale (budget and two decades of harsh experience probably contributed to this). It uses the smaller, more intimate, more claustrophobic scale as much to its advantage as Kane used its awesome, distancing, massive scale to its advantage. Truly a pair of films that compliment each other...

Great films on here Johnny. You have really good taste.
Nice list, glad to see some different choices. Badlands was a great move. You inspired me to tackle my own list.
Thanks for the compliments guys! A list like this, as I'm sure you know, needs affirmation. I feel a lot more comfortable objectively discussing the merits and flaws of a given film, rather than saying that a particular movie means something to me personally. Glad to inspire you jgandcag; lots of other listologists certainly inspired me, and jblack lit a fire under me to get it done. Overall, we're a pretty tasteful bunch I'd say...
