With the exception of Dylan, they've hardly cracked the Top 40 or been featured ad infinitum on MTV or VH1, but they're still relevant as ever.

Well said. Every one here belongs here.
Great job.
Shalom, y'all!

PS - Didn't Willie sell very well back in his day? I also want to say that Van Morrison's Greatest Hits is a regular in the top ten Catalogue albums, but I can't swear to that...
True, Willie and Van were big sellers more than 20 years ago, but at the expense of dwindling record sales, their music has gotten better.
Dunno about Van's greatest hits album still being on the charts, but I think everyone I know has it in ther collections.
Well with the exception of Sleater-Kinney, I have contributed much money to all these artists. I think Morrison, Zevon and Costello are three of my bigger purchases.
This is a great list idea! My only question is didn't Aimee Mann do really well with the Magnolia soundtrack? I thought for sure that was a hit...
Yes, "Magnolia" sold well, but for the most part, Aimee's album's have gone largely unnoticed by mainstream audiences.
I really like the choices on this list, but may I suggect FYC:
Lou Reed / The Velvet Underground (Lou is still putting stuff out, and VU was never a seller)
Neil Young (he sold well a long time ago, but his new stuff is great and maybe two copies were sold)
Absolutely! How could I forget these two. I'll add them to the list. Thanks!
