- In recent years, [Natalie] Goldberg's teachings have come to emphasize Katagiri Roshi's three main teachings:
- • Continue under all circumstances.
- • Don't be tossed away.
- • Make positive effort for the good.
- 3 Rules for life.
- 1. Focus on the solution, not the problem.
- 2. People are, singly taken, intelligent and rational. Taken en mass, they are prone to being stupid and docile.
- 3. Love is not enough: There must be understanding and appreciation and the willingness/ability to compromise.
- A few simple rules to live by. At least for me.
- -Inflict no harm on others. Harm kills.
- -Shy not from pain. Pain spurs growth.
- -When love throws you a curve ball, point to left field and swing with your heart.
- -Do not lie, but do not purposefully harm with your truth.
- -Before indulging in your passions, honor your duty.
- -Listen with your heart, but do with your mind.
- -Honor your family, those who support and love you.
- -Conflict and combat are to be avoided at all costs, but if entered into, they should be completed without remorse. Do not look back and do not stop with the job half done.

What's a gentle body?
... I'd go with calm, or free from tension.
Or I could go smart-ass, and say it's any body belonging to me.
To you or with you?
I only need one rule... *survive and never think twice unless you want to*... i guess it could be two... but for someone who seems to collect life rules she likes I thought I'd share... oh and I guess by way of only having one rule I live by it can be implied that the best advice I can give anyone is to simplify at all cost.
