Unfinished Books (and why I stopped reading them)

  1. The Hungry Years, William Leith, Gave up on 2/18/07: This had some interesting ideas, but the author was just way too stream of conscious for my taste. It got a bit too whiny for me too.
  2. Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen, Gave up on 2/24/07: Ugh... this was supposed to be good, but I just found it to be typical - typical characters with nothing new or innovative. I really tried to like it too - made it half way before deciding life is too short!
  3. Book by Book, Michael Dirda, gave up on 3/11/07: I usually try to give a book 50 pages before deciding to continue, but I just couldn't get past page 12 of this one. I found it rather dry.
  4. A Suitable Boy, Vikram Seth, gave up on 3/14/07: I really, really wanted to read this book this year. I made it to page 290, and while I liked it, I was having trouble keeping track of all the people and who was doing what. I just couldn't get into the story. I am going to keep this one, and maybe someday I'll get back to it.
  5. Women Who Run with Wolves, 10/07: Just couldn't get into it. I think I'll try again some day!
  6. Starfishing by Nicola Monaghan, gave up on 6/19/08: I gave up pretty early in this one because I just did not like the main character at all and that's not a good sign!
