John Sayles is totally underappreciated. I never saw a film by him I didn't like. And most of them are intensely rewatchable. My favorite is "Passion Fish".
On this list Altman is my favorite. He is definitely underapprecited by movie-goers, but not by Hollywood since everyone wants to work for him at scale salary. Personally, I would add John Dahl to this list; I loved Kill Me Again, Red Rock West, and The Last Seduction. He does a great job with the modern film noir genre. Oh, I just thought of a relative newcomer for this list, Doug Liman. I loved both Swingers and Go.
Of these directors, I am most familiar with John Sayles. What a resume! Lone Star is probably my favorite of his.
They're all kind of wacky, in the same sense as Sayles is. Sayles is great, I really loved Lone Star as well.

Hal Hartley is probably the greatest director nobody has heard of. I am very happy to see him grace your list.
Shalom, y'all!
