To my knowledge, no significant artists have created original music that made the above fusions. It's surprisingly difficult to come up with fusions that haven't been tried. More to come. Please alert me if you can name an artist/album that has achieved these style pairings. Also, please nominate other potentially unachieved style fusions.

I think Flipper have Grunge & Free Jazz covered.
Mangled scaruffi quotes:
"Precursori del noise-rock, del grunge"
"Sex Bomb, un caotico sabba a ritmo tribale squarciato da urla sataniche, crivellato dal fischio di un sintetizzatore e dal ritornello trionfale di un sassofono, un incrocio fra jam di free-jazz e danza pellerossa."
same goes for some of Von Lmo's stuff, also early '80s.
I'll have to track those down, thanks! AllMusic's profile of Flipper, which is in my native language, says nothing of free-jazz influences. Likewise for the few Von Lmo reviews I can find online.
Maybe it's cheating a bit, but there's also a couple bands that attempt to unite free jazz and metal. Yakuza and Candiria come to mind, but I'll bet there's others as well.
When I think free jazz + metal, I think of Last Exit.
Yes, there are many jazz-metal outfits. I'm looking for something closer to grunge.
the proof's in the pudding
allmusic is useless
Wow, I very much disagree with that. I've found many excellent uses for AllMusic.

i used to used allmusic every day
these days i dont use it at all. apart from the makeovers that completely ruined the site (and made it the slowest site on the net), i also realised that they have only two or three writers whose opinions i care about.
i bought a copy of the paper edition for like $2, second hand, and i havent opened it more than twice
allmusic is good for release dates and such, i'll give them that
I understand. When the update first hit, I experienced a major slowdown also, but I don't seem to have problems with it any longer.
I'm in the major minority, but for my money, Stephen Thomas Erlewine is still the best critic in the biz. He certainly can whup my sorry behind.
I also find some of their essays on genres terrific.
Shalom, y'all!

I think AllMusic is often useful for just about everything but their album ratings.
Which is pretty much how I feel about Scaruffi.
And neither of us are shocked. :)

"Funk & Space Rock"
I'm trying to think of an example of this. If I stretch the definitions far enough I'm sure I could think of something :o)
"Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip
And come on up to the Mothership."
I can't believe that it's up to me to recall the super-stellar visits of Parliament, Bootzilla et.al.
All I have to say about Sun Ra & the Arkestra is: If you got it you gotta listen to it. Cool cannot be owned, it can only be.
I feel so old... and so very galactically funky.
Make my funk the P-Funk
I want my funk uncut
Make my funk the P-Funk
I wants to get funked up.
yeah, i guess Parliament would count : )
that leaves
* Trance & Heavy Metal
* Raga & Lounge
definitely drawing a blank on the latter.
Abhijit Pohankar might fill in the blank.
CAUTION: Don't mistake him for his dad.
I want the bomb,
I want the P-Funk
Don't want my funk stepped on
The closest I know of a mixture of trance and heavy metal is the early material by Hungarian band Plasma Pool, back when it was a project of the metal community's favorite ecstasy user, Attila Csihar.
I admittedly know nothing of trance and whether they would fit the description. There's, thankfully, one of their early songs, False the Saints, on their website if someone more knowledgeable on trance wants to give it a listen. And I believe I have the first two Plasma Pool albums somewhere if anyone happens to like it (which is not likely to happen, heh).
Nekros Pervertor may also fit the bill, but I've not heard anything by them.
How very interesting! I'm not an expert on trance groove, but the Plasma Pool sounds like metal / trance to me! Any resident trance/techno/electro experts wanna weigh in?

This is the official page for
Nekros Pervertor. You can hear a couple tracks there.
