To the best of my knowledge and research, these were all singles released on the Motown label. I picked my favorites and attempted to arrange them in the order of their actual single release, though I'm sure I goofed here and there.
I ended the compilation at the point where Motown grew into an album-oriented label. For me, in terms of singles, that arbitrary line was drawn with the release of Stevie Wonder's Superstition.
Most of the songs are sourced from the superior sounding Hitsville USA, The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971. The rest (which are not on that box set), with one exception, are from Motown Gold: The Classic Years. The lone track not on either collection was nabbed from The Supremes' Millennium Collection: 20th Century Masters (because I just had to put You Keep Me Hangin' On on here...
