Lester!
I recently watched Lost Horizon for the first time, and truly enjoyed it. I know the scene is in the novel as well, but I was fascinated by the evacuation of Europeans from the colonial city falling to guerillas; it's probably one of the earliest depictions of the type of situation played out over and over again during the twentieth century (the fall of Saigon springs to mind). The way even sympathetic natives are beaten away from the plane, so that the Westerners can get out really reflects on the "Utopia" they find later on, doesn't it?

I really need to see Lost Horizon again. I really like the film, and while it is a shame so much is missing, the 'reconstruction' does a pretty terrific job of filling in the gaps.
Unfortunately, it has been so long since I watched it, that's what my mind has concerning the film... gaps. :(
Shalom, y'all!
