The Ultimate 10

Tags:
  • 1. London Calling -The Clash- Take all forms of music, throw it in a blender and get a work of genius. Unfortunately they were too good to last.
  • 2. Automatic for the People -R.E.M.- Heartbreakingly beautiful yet at the same time with a nice political edge (Ignoreland, Monty Got a Raw Deal)
  • 3. Achtung, Baby -U2- Bono & Co. discover the irony of their situation and learn to love it.
  • 4. Darkness on the Edge of Town -Bruce Springsteen- The Boss's most complete album front to back. Occasionally borders on depressing but always leaves me feeling good.
  • 5. Nevermind -Nirvana- It seems cliche now but good lord did these guys change the world when they arrived.
  • 6. My Aim is True -Elvis Costello- Man, this guy set the bar so high for himself that he has not yet been able to reach it. Greatest debut album EVER.
  • 7. Key Lime Pie -Camper Van Beethoven- Never ceases to make me feel like I am in on a great secret. Seeing them live is like going to church.
  • 8. Tim -The Replacements- Bastards of Young and Left of the Dial, nothing else needs saying.
  • 9. Raw Power -Iggy & the Stooges- Without it punk rock doesn't exist. Someone please tell me why Iggy isn't in the R&R Hall of Fame.
  • 10. American Idiot -Green Day- My how they've grown. Basically says all that needs to be said about the state of America under GWB. One of the greatest political albums ever.
Author Comments:

Before anyone blasts me, I intentionally left off the Big Three of Beatles, Stones and Dylan because at this point they should be excluded from these lists. Everyone is aware of how great they are and their inclusion can now be unspoken, thus freeing up room for new blood.
