Author Comments:

According to thefacebook.com, these are the most popular things at colleges around the world. This is based on how many people listed them as favorite books, movies, etc. on their profiles.

I think it is kinda funny that there are two books more popular than the Bible and that both of those books have come under attack by Christian groups.

I'll try to keep this updated reasonably often.

Cloned From:

I think it is funny that you call Christian groups who defend the Bible, "right-wing."

I wasn't referring to anyone defending the Bible. I was referring to those attacking Harry Potter for encouraging Satan-worship and those attacking The Da Vinci Code (a work of fiction, no less) for being an inaccurate representation of Christianity's history. I don't think the crusades against either one of these books involve defending the Bible. Furthermore, this kind of censorship is something I tend to associate with right-wing groups. But I don't want to pigeonhole anyone, so fair point. I will remove the words "right-wing."

The Notebook? Really? That's...interesting. The rest of the list is pretty expected (and pretty shitty, to boot), but I didn't expect to see The Notebook topping the list.

I haven't seen it, but still. Unexpected. Those wacky college students.

Well, think about it this way - most of the other movies on that top 10 are intended to appeal mainly to males. So male interest is split among a larger number of movies.

Female interest, however, is focused on this one recent estrogen-inducing film. On the IMDB, 1595 females under 18 rate The Notebook as an average grade of 9.2. Compared to this list, that would make The Notebook the greatest movie ever made. Females 18-29 rate The Notebook as an 8.8 (see first link), which would make the film ONLY the 3rd-greatest movie ever made (see second link). Clearly, the only reason why The Notebook is not already considered an all-time classic is because not every film critic is a teenage girl. And since the target age group and gender for The Notebook makes up the majority of college students, why wouldn't it top the list?

Who is Jack Johnson? Apparently he tops pretty much every regional list and yet I don't know anyone who's a fan. Is he like Dave Matthews though? Barf!

Family Guy higher than the Simpsons? Barf!

Just once I'd like to see Oingo Boingo top the college lists. Booyah!

Jack Johnson is a folky-type acoustic musician who is obviously very popular at colleges. I'm not that familiar with his music though.

This list was made over a year ago when Family Guy was extremely popular at colleges. I feel like it's popularity has waned since then, but Facebook took this feature off their site (I think...) so I can't confirm or deny that suspicion. I do like pre-cancellation Family Guy, but I think The Simpsons is a far better show.
