Top 400 trance tracks of all time

  1. _These are the rules for posting recommendations. If you break one, I will ignore you. Read them before making a suggestion:

  2. 1.If you suggest even one track that is already on the list, I will ignore all other tracks in your suggested list. Use edit/find (on this page), or hit control-f to search out tracks before recommending them. Don't just whip your playlist off into the comments, I want you to make sure it's a)better than some of the tracks on this list, and b)NOT ALREADY ON IT, before you suggest I add it. This list is massive, and the base of tracks it was selected out of is even bigger. I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but I don't have the time to sift through records that are already on the list. Plus, that tells me you didn't think about your suggestion.
  3. 2.If you've been listening to trance for less than 9 months, you have a DJ Mystik track on your computer anywhere, or you still (seriously) find tracks by typing "trance" or "techno" into a file sharing program, then please don't suggest anything. Your recommendation is going to be stupid. No, trust me. It is.
  4. 3. Don't post "I can't believe [insert probably stupid and derivative track here] isn't on the list! What gives?!?!?" or anything even remotely close to that comment. What gives? If it's really such a masterpiece and it's not on the list, then I probably haven't heard it, dumbass (Or I've heard it, it sucks, and you just have no taste). If you make that comment, I will ignore you. In fact, if you even think about making that comment, don't bother posting, your suggestion is going to be stupid. There are literally millions of trance tracks, and there is no possible way anyone could listen to them all (I've only heard tens of thousands). Although the best tracks tend to bubble up into underground recognition (and no further), there are likely dozens of masterpieces that have gone unnoticed - this is what I'm looking for. However, there are hundreds of thousands of piles of derivative crap that directly steal from classics and never go anywhere. These appeal to newbies who haven't been around long enough to hear the originals (and to E-tards who have no memory of any tracks they've heard at any events), which is why no one who hasn't listened to trance for over 9 months should post here. If you don't know enough about trance to know that more records are released than could ever possibly be listened to, you don't know enough about trance to make an intelligent suggestion, and you're wasting your time.
  5. 4. If you have ever, EVER in your life shouted "TIIIIEEEESSSSTTTOOOOO!!!!" or said anything along the lines of "OMG OMG OMG Tiesto is such a God OMG!" don't post here, because you're an idiot. He can play records. Calloo, calay, he belongs on Mount Olympus.
  6. 5. Do not write a post stating something like "that's just your opinion! [boring derivative crap] is a masterpiece, you just won't open your ears!" [Stupid derivative crap] is not a masterpiece. You just haven't heard enough trance to know that [stupid derivative crap] doesn't have a shred of originality in it.
  7. 6. If you don't like at least five trance tracks produced before 1995, don't bother posting a suggestion, as you know absolutely nothing about trance. Come back when you're older, sonny.
  8. 7. If you don't like acid, or don't know what acid is (and weren't knocked out by rule number 2), you're an idiot, don't post.
  9. 8. If you don't listen to at least 3 other kinds of electronic music that are not mainstream hip-hop genres or played on the radio, you have no perspective, don't post a suggestion.

  10. _Here's a torrent of the first 50 songs:
  11. here
  12. Many thanks to AsColdAsIce for making this. I'm not sure if it works, but it's worth a shot.

  13. Final note: there are going to be songs on here that aren't perfectly 100% trance. If you see this tag beside a track:
  14. {arguable},
  15. then the track is disputable (or disputed) in some way.
  16. The genres essentially represented are ibiza trance, epic trance, psytrance/goa trance, anthem trance, classic trance, acid trance, ambient trance, tech-trance, and progressive trance. I am liberal with these categories, and what has also ended up on here is some trancier ambient house, acid techno, progressive house, tech-house, "minimal," and breaks. There is a limit, but it's blurry. For example, you won't find funky house, breakbeat hardcore, or aggrotech on here.

  17. Humate - Love Simulation (Paul van Dyk's Love mix) [1993] [Ibiza trance]
  18. It's amazing how little this track loses its loveliness with repeat listens. I've had it for 6 years now, and I still love it just as much as I did when it floored me on the first listen. Even the other top 10 tracks (while still amazing) have diminished in some ways with compulsive listening, but this one remains the shining gem at the top of the trance genre. This perfectly captures the beauty of a tropical sunset on a peaceful deserted island, and to this day never fails to evoke such a scene.

  19. The Age of Love - Age of Love (Jam & Spoon's Watch out for Stella mix) [1992] [classic trance]
  20. This is often erroneously called the first trance tune of all time, including by me for a very long time. Well, it wasn't. There was no "first trance tune." It seems to have slowly coalesced out of the Belgian new beat, acid house, techno, and euro-house miasma around at the time. You can look for related tracks in each of these early scenes, but none of them are "trance" per se, they clearly fall into their respective styles. And the first artists who actually set out to make "trance" were mimicking a genre that was already defined. So where do you draw the line? You don't. There was no big bang.
  21. Also, the so-called "original mix" available pretty much everywhere is almost universally actually the (admittedly superior) Jam & Spoon remix. I finally found the real original mixes, and they're not trance at all - they're inarguably new beat. You can almost hear some trance in there, but it's a seed, at best.
  22. That said, this version is a fantastic track, and still one of trance's first. It's beautiful, ethereal, and above all, entrancing.

  23. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Three N' One mix) [1998] [anthem trance/ibiza trance]
  24. The track that defines everything that an ibiza anthem is, full of all of the excess and bombast of the island: pure dancable joy. The track's central hook is a long, arpeggiated melody looping such that the beginning and end melt together into an endless sphere. It sounds like sped-up 70's minimalism run through a 90's dark trance synth with a sub-tribal feel (it's the beats that do this). I'll admit, the build-up is a little bit cliche by now, but it wasn't really at the time, and for second-wave trance, it's as creative as it's going to get, and more than compensated by the spot-on anthem. In a not so surprising twist, this was initially written by one of the fathers of modern trance (Cosmic Baby), back in 1993 (they were always better at trance than the bedroom nerds and the corporate pop machine). It has gotten another remix every single year since 93, most of which are picked up by trance jocks and many of which go back on the club charts (the best is undoubtedly 1997's chart-topping Three N' One remix (although some prefer the 1998 Nalin & Kane version, and classic trance addicts will love the original)).

  25. Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea [1991] [ambient trance/classic trance]
  26. Released in 1991, this song wasn't even intended to be trance - no one even used the word yet (although there was a fledgling sound growing in the underground house, rave, and techno scenes). It was meant to be ambient breaks, but "Papua New Guinea's" atmosphere was like little other electronic dance released at the time - ethereal, spacy, almost angelic, but still dancefloor-worthy, catchy, and even relaxing. The song instantly became a trance classic once the genre was brought into official existence in 1993, and deservingly so. Like it's predecessor "Age of Love," even today it can be played without sounding the slightest bit dated.
  27. {arguable - ambient breaks}

  28. Underworld - Born Slippy (NUXX). [1995] [classic trance/hard trance]
  29. A melodic trance tune with stream-of-consciousness lyrics that become stranger with each listen, mainly beacuse they never really had any actual internal logic to begin with. The melody is unforgettably catchy, and contains a nice twist in the middle, in which it goes from being a wistful and pretty little ambient trancer, to a hard and abrasive swedish techno stormer, and pulls both off better than just about anything in either genre. Surprisingly, especially with this being, you know, actually good, this was a huge hit in Europe (it went to number 2 on the world chart in 1996-97), and gets at least two new remixes every year, at least one of which always goes back on the club charts (hopefully 2006 will be an exception? Honestly, they're never going to top the original). So, not only is it one of the best, it's also the most popular to still retain credibility.
  30. {arguable - melodic techo(?)}

  31. Sasha - Xpander [1999] [progressive trance]
  32. Perfect progressive trance. A melody that, like the last 2 tracks, is atmospheric, loops on itself, and endlessly contagious, without seeming repetitive. This song is absorbing - the feeling throughout is impossible to describe, since like I said before...dancing about architecture. Just download the track. It's incredible. (Was another mega-European hit. I don't know the details specifically, but it doesn't matter).

  33. Nalin & Kane - Beachball [1996] [ibiza trance]
  34. Gorgeous, elegant, and never tiring. It's quite possible that I've listened to this track more times than any other, probably my personal favorite. Built out of tribal, yet melodic beats (the "Nalin and Kane sound"), relaxing and inobtrusive vocals, and a slow, subtle build that takes its time to breakdown. When it does breakdown, air strings and seagulls wash and flow around each other as if musically taking flight to a Mediterannean sky over a sunset-golden beach. When the breakdown ends, "Becahball" slowly floats back to earth, before spending the remainder of the track rippling back and forth between the sky and the sand.
  35. {arguable - ibiza house}

  36. Paragliders - Paraglide [1993] [classic trance]

  37. DnTel - (This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan (Superpitcher Kompakt remix) [2002] [minimal trance]
  38. This is probably the only trance track ever created with vocals worth listening to. But it doesn't rest on them, just allowing them to sparsely resonant in a minimal nothing, it raises them, gently bringing them to soaring heights with gorgeous melodies that slowly drown out the surreal beauty of the evocative lyrics. Eventually the glistening bells overtake the words entirely, taking the already flying track into the stratosphere. It's the perfect representative of minimal trance.
  39. {arguble: tech-house/progressive house/microhouse}

  40. Hardfloor - Acperience 1 [1992] [acid trance/classic trance]
  41. {arguable - acid}

  42. Hybrid - Symphony [1997] [orchestral trance]
  43. Wow. Forget Adagio for Strings, forget Protect Your Mind, forget ****ing Airwave, symphonic trance was created and destroyed with this track. Everything trance is supposed to make you feel, and almost everything classical is supposed to do can be found here in this amazing song. Easy to dance to, creative beats (breaktrance, so they actually put some thought into them), more melodies than you can possibly count, and all this without sounding crowded or overstuffed; all of it original. They even did it without overusing the breakdown. Fantastic, it completly lives up to its title.

  44. Aphex Twin - Didgeridoo [1992] [acid trance]
  45. This track is simultaneously hard, twisted and beautiful, which is something I would have considered a nearly impossible feat until I heard this, and despite being over 15 years old, it still sounds innovative and fresh today. Built on a foundation of Basic Channel-esque foggy acid lines, Didgeridoo manages to build and break like trance, while meandering and wandering like ambient and relentlessly pounding and squiggling like acid techno without sounding forced or mashed together. A didgeridoo sets the bassline resulting in a simultaneously relaxing, funky and dark atmosphere. It can sound like a trance anthem, a techno monster, or an ambient chilldown depending on how you listen, and it's all of those together and more, and it grows greater with each listen. Didgeridoo is undoubtedly one of the greatest trance tracks of all time. Whether or not it's in the genre of "trance" per se is questionable (though a connecting thread is certainly there), but in the most elastic sense of entrancing dance music, it comes out pretty close to the top.
  46. {arguable - ambient acid techno(?)}

  47. Orbital - Halcyon On & On [1993] [ambient trance]
  48. {arguable - ambient techno}

  49. Chicane - Offshore [1996] [ibiza trance]
  50. {arguable - ambient house/ibiza house}

  51. Banco De Gaia - Heliopolis [1993] [classic trance/acid trance]

  52. Choice - Acid Eiffel [acid trance]
  53. {arguable - acid techno}

  54. Ame - Rej [2005] [minimal trance/neo-trance]
  55. {arguable - "minimal"}

  56. L.S.G. - Netherworld [1997] [progressive trance]

  57. Balil - Parasight [1993] [classic trance/acid trance]

  58. Salt Tank - Eugina [1996] [ibiza trance]

  59. The PQM - You Are Sleeping (Luke Chable Vocal mix) [2004] [progressive trance/deep trance]
  60. {arguable - progressive house}

  61. LSG - Hearts [1994] [classic trance/acid trance]

  62. Dance 2 Trance - We Came in Peace [1990] [classic trance]
  63. Another contender for first trance song ever created. Whether this track came first, or Age of Love is questionable, but the quality of this little masterpiece is indisputable. Almost like minimal goa, mixed with James Holden-esque progressive (but of course, it predates all of that). It's reminiscent of being on the moon, or on the surface of an alien world: exactly the way trance should sound.

  64. Underworld - Dark Train [1994] [classic trance]

  65. Infected Mushroom - Mush Mushi [goa trance/psytrance]

  66. Gabriel Ananda - Ihre Persönliche Glücksmelodie [2005] [minimal trance/neo-trance]

  67. Paul Van Dyk - For an Angel [1994] [epic trance]

  71. The MFA - The Difference it Makes [2004] [minimal trance/neo-trance]
  72. {arguable - progressive house}

  73. Cybernaut - Hydroponix [1997] [goa trance/psytrance]

  74. Datura - Yerba Del Diablo [1992] [classic trance/acid trance]
  75. {I find it's a lot like psytrance/goa trance, but this isn't a bad thing.}

  76. Three Drives - Greece 2000 [1997] [progressive trance/anthem trance]

  77. PHD - Summer Storm (Leisure Lounge Edit) [1994] [classic trance/acid trance]

  78. Jam and Spoon - Stella [1992] [ibiza trance]

  79. Hallucinogen - LSD [1994] [psytrance/goa trance]

  80. Commander Tom - Are Am Eye? [1995] [classic trance/dark trance(?)]
  81. {arguable - rave}

  82. Phobia - Phobia (DJ Hell mix) [1991/2007] [classic trance/acid trance]
  83. What actually makes the DJ Hell 2007 mix different from the 1991 original is pretty minimal (ha. ha. no.), but it seems to do the trick, elevating what was already a trance classic into the neo-trance masterpiece it was always meant to be. Really though, everything that made the track so incredible to begin with is there, and everything added on could have been created back in 1991. But it rounds it out perfectly.
  84. It's rather dark trance. The anchoring melody is simply a two note depth charge interspersed with a transmission-like voice ("let me have silence") and a strangely affecting diva wail, held down by a circular acid line that eventually dissolves into quasi-anthemic territory (a la Acid Eiffel, which it actually transcends). Everything here is simple and effective, and reminiscent of floating in space past a rocky wasteland moon, no power in the ship, unable to navigate, fleeing alien depth charges. Or perhaps it's like being under the ocean on an alien planet in almost complete blackness and silence but for the occasional bursts of extraterrestrial explosives seeking to destroy your submarine, hidden in the deep, the power.
  85. This is also a flagpost of what seems to be a classic trance revival of sorts brought about by an adoring minimal community (some of whom floated out of classic trance-land in the first place, fleeing the epic anthem boom of the late 90s. You know who I mean. Sven Vath. Stephan Bodzin.)

  86. Etnica - Moon Influence [1996] [goa trance/psytrance]

  87. Yahel - Voyage [2000] [psytrance/epic trance]

  88. Binary Finary - 1998 [1998] [anthem trance]
  89. Note: 1999 and 2000 are the same track, re-released for more guiltless radioplay and club spinning. Although why this odd norm exists at all is beyond me. If you still like the track, just keep playing it. Don't buy it again with a different date stamped on the cover, just so you can label yourself "upfront."

  90. Union Jack - Red Herring [1995] [acid trance]

  91. Beanfield - Tides (Carl Craig mix) [2004] [minimal trance/neo-trance]

  92. Cybordelics - Adventures of Dama [1993] [classic trance]

  94. Leftfield - Phat Planet [1999] [deep trance]
  95. {arguable - progressive house}

  97. {arguable - anthem house}

  98. DJ Tiesto - Suburban Train [2001] [epic trance]

  99. James Holden - Nothing (93 Returning mix) [2003] [progressive trance]

  100. Roland Appel - Dark Soldier [2007] [minimal trance/neo-trance]

  101. Efdemin - Lohn & Brot [2007] [minimal trance/neo-trance]
  102. "Minimal" has gotten so trancy this year that almost all of the best new tracks warrant (high) places on this list.
  103. This is the only trance track on the entire list that I fell in love with during the opening bar (Those first three notes are actually truly beautiful, and even if the track didn't go anywhere from there it would still warrant a place somewhere on this list as the best filler of all time). I don't even cut this track up in my iPod playlist.
  104. {arguable - minimal. But argue with me that it's really minimal and not trance at all and I'll actually beat you down. I will find out where you live, and I will beat you down. It's got breakdowns, dammit, BREAKDOWNS. Yeah, minimal. Right.}

  105. Orbital - Belfast [1992] [ambient trance]
  106. Art of Trance - Madagascar (Cygnus X mix) [1998] [epic trance/anthem trance]
  107. Gus Gus - Purple (Sasha vs. The Light mix) [1998] [progressive trance]

  119. {arguable - progressive house}
  120. Astral Projection - Mahadeva [1996] [psytrance]
  121. Like an ancient tribal ceremony, plus aliens.
  122. {arugable - psy. But really, think about it. Psy...trance. PsyTRANCE.}
  123. Petter - These Days [2004] [deep trance/neo-trance]
  124. {arguable - progressive breaks}

  182. X-Tracks - Plan 94 (The Voyage) [1994] [classic trance]

  417. Plummet - Damaged
  418. Darude - Sandstorm [1999] [anthem trance]
  419. This track is not a sellout, and it deserves much of the popular support it got. There is not one element to this track that panders to the masses any more than the rest of the anthem trance. I'll admit, there are better tunes that should also be imported to the mainstream, but this track is still pretty good.

  538. _Note: "Not trance at all, but excellent tracks" removals:
  539. The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds [1991] [ambient trance]
  540. This is ambient house, and not even slightly definable as trance. I foolishly left it on the list for so long that I didn't want to remove it. I was quite foolish.).
  541. This is one of only 3 ambient anything tracks to ever reach the top 40 charts (correct me if I'm wrong on this one). It was a runaway hit when released in 1990 (although I don't know if it ever reached North America), Little Fluffy Clouds was another major influence on the formation of the trance genre. Catchy melodies, ambient synths, and an interesting vocal sample, combined with the trademark Orb atmosphere make this another incredible classic.
  542. 808 State - Pacific State [1989] (it's actually house)
  543. Orbital - Chime [1990] (rave)
  544. Layo & Bushwacka! - Love Story [2002] (progressive house)
  545. Ulrich Schnauss - Kneuddelmaus (very melodic IDM)
  546. Force Legato - System [1989] (EBM)
  547. DJ Hooligan - Hear You Now [2002] (Note: I had this track confused with Starecase - Faith (Loafer mix) for 4 years, and only discovered it today. I heard the actual track. I don't really like it. Besides, it's not even close to being trance. More like ambient pop, the sort of thing I always imagined when I heard the term [the actual genre sounds nothing like this, it's really just ambient/chillout with yet another flashy title] )
  548. Cass & Mangan - Green Eggs [2005] (progressive house/tech-house)
  549. Felix da Housecat - Watching Cars Go By (electro-house/electroclash)
  550. Orbital - One Perfect Sunrise
  551. Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky
  552. P.O.S. - Remember [2003]
  553. Paul Van Dyk - Forbidden Fruit
  554. The Horrorist - One Night in New York City (it's seriously just techno)
  555. Sander Kleinenberg - The Fruit [2004] (Electro-house, inarguably)
  556. Dark Suite - Dark Sweet Piano (Wally Lopez mix) (not trance at all)

  557. Recent Removals: [derivative, cheesy, annoying, undanceable, and/or undeniable not trance/entrancing, it all goes in here]

  559. Rank 1 - Airwave
  560. Delerium ft Sarah Machlachlan - Silence (Tiesto mix) [2000]
  561. Benny Benassi - Satisfaction [2003]
  562. {arguable - electro-house}
  563. Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone [1998]
  564. Planet Perfecto - Bullet in the Gun
  565. Ferry Corsten - Rock Your Body Rock [2003]
  566. DJ Shog - Another World {Quite possibly one of the worst producer names of all time. Besides the fact that putting "DJ" before your alias is ****ing idiotic, "Shog" is probably the stupidest slang term ever invented. Totally inappropriate too, considering it's an ebonic word: this is about the equivalent of a trance artist named DJ Murda-Thug. Only "shog" has no street cred as a colloquialism (ie: only wiggers say it), so it's like calling yourself DJ Fuzzy Street Soldja, playing fluffy trance, and thinking you're pretty hardcore. The track is also terrible.)
  567. Delerium - After All (Svenson & Gielson mix) [2004]
  568. Aquagen - Summer is Calling
  569. Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Tiesto mix)

For (another) particularly good trance list on listology, check out
Blind's list

For another alternate opinion on the best trance music, check out: TranceAddict's list. His ideas are very different from mine, I don't agree with quite a few of his top tracks, but if he thought exactly what I did, what would the point be of making a list? Worth checking out.

ATB, FAITHLESS, CHICANE, DARUDE, PPK, KERNKRAFT,AND MORE ARE JUST DANCE SONGS THAT SOME HOW GOT BRANDED AS TRANCE,BUT for me they are dance music tracks. like me I doubt If you will in your lifetime hear every trance song ever made as I think there would be just too many to go through but trying to remember classics from 10-15 years ago will get harder the older you get, but thanks to this website I hope we can remember this wild paties at clubs around the world with your favorite dj bashing your favorite tune tiesto at Ibiza, was my best night

steve35mids...

Sorry but your comment doesn't make any sense.... All those artists you named have made trance music, along with other genres. To describe ATB's 9pm, Chicane's Offshore or Saltwater or Faithless' Salva Mea, Insomnia or God Is A DJ, as mere dance songs is stupid. They are classic trance tunes.

BTW... the artist is Zombie Nation... and their famous tune is Kernkraft 400... and yes... the tune, depending on the mix, is trance... and undeniably a bloody classic...

Maybe before you make a silly post... you should educate yourself in dance music (e.g. what a particular genre sounds like, because I am not entirely confident you know what trance sounds like). If you can be bothered, you could do this by listening to the tracks in my 1000 BEST DANCE TRACKS (1984-Now) list... I think the link is posted somewhere above in another comment...

Wow. Epic list. Amazing Memories. Great Work Compiling and Commenting. Wow.

May I ask what the reason is that there are no hardtrance tracks listed in you chart?
Hardtrance is a part of trance, the same as ibiza trance, epic trance, psytrance/goa trance, anthem trance, classic trance, acid trance, ambient trance, tech-trance, and progressive trance which you did list. I believe that you can't put hardtrance near a gerne like Hardtyle, Newstyle, Hardbass or Hardcore.

I have one suggestion for you to considder: Talla 2XLC feat. Skysurfer - Terra Australis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09aIw46tkvg
And I miss Scot Project in your list, he is one of the pioneers of trance.

This is far by the best list going around the net, thank you for your time and effort which you put into this.
I can't share your number one whit you but that is the beauty of the humans that we all have a different opinions and taste ;)

I have much songs to listen to ;)

thank you again

obedaih,

I agree that this list is a bit scant on hardtrance, but to say there is no hard trance is wrong... there is hard trance like X-Cabs - Neuro & Quench - Dreams... and many others... the problem is that DT has listed them as "Anthem trance" "Epic trance" or "Classic trance" mostly, rather than listing them as "Hard Trance"...

Darktremor has definitely forgotten many great harder trance tracks on this list though. He also forgot some of the earliest hard trance classics which, if this list is to be taken seriously, should include tracks like Lunatic Asylum's - The Meltdown & Komakino's - Outface (both from 1993)..

Good work on the Scot Project recommendation. He's been doing great tracks since the mid 90s... (I have him in my "1,000 best dance tracks" list)... I think his first track "X" was great. I personally love "F" & "L". Also like his work under the name Arome especially "Hands Up"

BTW - Hardstyle is widely accepted as a form of trance

Hey Iam Struggling to remember a track, all i can remember is the music video on youtube. It was a cartoony spaceship it was like a trancey tecnho song but if wiould be great if anyone could help

How old is the track?

This one pops up in my mind:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKL1gzHhBrA

Yeh it not a game song like that is fron final fantasy

If now the track was in the 90s but i think it was after 95 if that helps

well, i was actually thinking about that when i saw that he removed tunes like Airwave (my all-time fav trance tune), Out Of The Blue, as you said & Sunrise, which are actually very beautiful & lovely trance tunes, that will undoubtedely stand the test of time, i do like minimal, classic, goa, ibiza & progressive trance too, as much as i do like Techno, but of course i'll have to admit, for me, Epic/Anthem Trance is the best, but i'll have to disagree with you on the statement: ''The Trance before Out of Blue is trance at the 50%.... THE REAL TRANCE STARTS ONLY AFTER OUT OF BLUE'' , i have to say that is not true, there were very good REAL trance tunes like you say made before Out of the blue, tunes like: Cafe del Mar, For An Angel, Universal Nation & many others.
but Trance is not only those 4 artists you've mentioned, & what about Cosmic Gate, Push, Laurent Veronnez aka Airwave, Matt Darey, Oliver Lieb.
so, summarizing, i agree with you on some points like the fact Out of the blue shouldn't be removed form the list, but on the other hand i do disagree with your statement of Out of the blue being the real strater for trance music, because Trance already existed before, not the way we know it & love it today, but existed & i do like some of those old tracks, anyway i liked your post, a bit rude, but not bad, if u wanaa check my trance list, you're free to check it out, BTW Airwave & Out Of The Blue are there, of course :)

and well, at least he didn't removed Communication by Armin van Buuren, which is my 3rd all-time fav trance tune.

Yeah, Matthias Paul is also good. And Dutch, too.

The greatest trance anthem is undoubtedly Adagio for Strings, its progression and the buildup shines with originality and pure bliss. Tiesto is definitely the Flying Dutchman of modern music and one of the best figures in music's history alongside of Franz Schubert and John Lennon.

You can't seriously believe your last statement, can you? No offense, but that would just be really depressing... LOL. By the way, William Orbit did a version of "Adagio for Strings" six years before Tiësto.

No, I am perfectly serious...ROFL.

I can't believe you're saying this. Of course I am being sarcastic =)

Dude, first of all the classics and the originators need to be given more respect than the artists who come later because, vintage artists are the pioneers, they started trance, they laid a framework, a template, an archtypal template that your so called trance artists like Tiesto, Armin, Ferry Corsten used, so hadn't it been for trance originators like Jam and Spoon, Paul Van Dyk, Cygnus X, Dance 2 Trance, Yves Deryuter, Astral Projection or Union Jack, people like Tiesto would never be able to produce anything, second of all, go into the dictionary and check the meaning of Trance, a temporary state in which a medium, with suspension of personal consciousness, is controlled by an intelligence from without and used as a means of communication, as from the dead or a half-conscious state, seemingly between sleeping and waking, in which ability to function voluntarily may be suspended, so basically trance or for that matter trance music, is not dance music, its meant to take you high and into a world of your own, and songs in Darktremor's list exactly do that, try going high and listening to Cygnus X's Orange Theme if you don't understand what I mean, people like Tiesto and Ferry just changed the meaning of trance to dance, just for the commercial satisfaction of the morons of your generation, who just wanted to raise thier hands and not thier minds, and that is why classic trance is the best, it achieved the original intention of trance, to take you into your own world, and to evoke different feelings, and different genres of Trance serves different emotions of the Emotion rainbow or spectrum, Orbital's Haclyon On and On relaxed you and gave you peace, Emmanuel Top's acid phase hypnotised you, Astral Projection's Mahadeva made you euphoric, and Vera Cocha's Carte Blanche filled you with positive energy, but you like most people din't understand the meaning of music or never took the pains to go and research about Trance music and its evolution, never tried searching for trance classics, sat in a room alone with headphones and heard music at full blast, on your own, and concentrating on the changes in your senses, perception and your mind, with trance, you just heard what your generation did, what everyone around you did, and what was popular, you dont love trance, you just hear it because it sounds cool, and by the way Armin himself plays many of the songs in this list himself in A State of Trance Classics, you're so called idol respects the stuff you hate, next time when you dope, put on your earphones in full volume and listen to these songs, Cygnus X-Orange Theme, Emmanual Top- Acid Phase, Legend B.- Lost in Love, Astral Projection- Mahadeva, Out of Body Experience- Rabbit in the moon, Cygnus X- Positron without any bias, and you'll understand what I mean

I've said the same things a couple of times in the comments as well. His list is not trance. The fact that he took Tiesto's remix of Delerium's Silence off the list is laughable. It's not my favorite trance tune but it's considered one of, if not the best trance tune by countless trance lovers.

Although darktremor did put a lot of time to create this list, I'm also beginning to agree that it just isn't "trance". Many of the tracks on this list are minimal or "neo trance". Like Minilogue - Elephant's Parade. It is absolutely not one freaking bit trance although it's a great track. Darktremor has almost completely ignored label Anjunabeats as well. It has some of the greatest trance releases of all time that were way ahead of their time.

I'm also very baffled by the fact that so many people here think that tracks from 1990-1992 deserve more attention than say, tracks from 2000-2006. It's very naive to think that "the older, the better". These people also think that they have very extensive knowledge of trance music and are therefore justified to be highly sarcastic and rude to other people. Believe me, there are a few trance masterpieces even from year 2008 or 2009. But now, those kinds of releases are pretty much dead and all that exists is percussive rubbish trance (ASOT).

My favourite genre of trance music is by far melodic trance accompanied with epic choir and a serious tone. There aren't many tracks like that on this list and they are quite simply, real trance music. And it's not "hands up" type of trance either, like eurotrance. They have greatness in them.

I was the first to criticize this list for being full of crap minimal/neo trance tracks, with gaping omissions of widely-respected trance tracks from the last 20 years... The reason for this is that DarkTremor is from Generation-Y. He is someone who got into trance late due to his age, he wasn't around when the stuff started, so to compensate he has tried to research as much as he can about classic trance tracks and more diverse sub-genres of trance (neo trance), to make himself look more worldly & knowledgable about trance, and then castigating those who do not know what he now knows (evident from the statement's in his list's introduction)... I can see that DT has just listed as many old skool Platipus, Bonzai, EyeQ Records (etc) releases as he possibly can, without checking whether they are great... And also listing all the tracks from Sasha & Digweeds Northern Exposure albums.... He has missed other widely known trance classics, purely because he has never heard them... He is really a novice disguised as an expert... and also a trance snob... He has shown very litte, to no, notice of the popular harder styles of trance (hard trance & hardstyle), deciding rather to concentrate on artsy crap like neo-trance, which hardly anyone listens to, unless they have insomnia and wants some music to help them sleep...

Anjunabeats, which i think is Above & Beyond's Label, have some good tracks, however, many of the tracks have that generic A&B sound to them, which has hardly changed in the last 10 years... Also the label churns out tracks on an extremely high regularity, compared to most labels, which is evidence that the label is more concerned with making quick bucks, rather than taking time to create masterpieces or seminal tracks... However, I must say I really like OceanLab, mainly because Justine Suissa has a great voice...

Also, the statement "the older, the better"... is partly true... tracks need to stand the test of time, to truly be given greatness status, so a list like this should be a fluid document which changes with time as relatively new tracks now which are considered good, become great after they stand the test of time... This however won't happen for this list as DT doesnt update this list anymore (too busy listening to Minimal)....

Now the Audio_Driver2009's comment above about the Delirium - Silence remix by Tiesto is highly debatable... I believe in no way should tiesto's mix be credited as great, as it was Fade's Sanctuary Mix of the tune a few years earlier which created the samples that Tiesto used.. Therefore the track's greatness is by Fade not Tiesto... so DT was right to exclude it from the list, but wrong not to replace it with Fade's version, because its a bloody classic tune...

Airbase is another great Trance producer and i don't see here in this list a single track produced by him, what about Escape, One Tear Away, Genie & many other huge tracks produced by him, same happens with Arisen by Arksun, he says he doesn't like it because it has an huge breakdown, what the hell?!
Arisen is one of the most beautiful trance tracks ever created and he says tracks with huge breakdowns aren't great, this must be a joke, but what baffles me more is the fact that he decided to remove epic trance tracks like Airwave, Out Of The Blue, Sunrise, Endless Wave & many others because he says is cheesy, seriously, in the beggining i defended him, but now being terribly serious i think this man is a joke, i mean, Airwave is an all-time classiic that stood the test of time & he decided to remove it, including tracks that doesnt't even are considered Trance at all, that's why i say, TranceAddict's list is way better.
and my list too, even though i was a little bit influenced by Darktremor and i have to admit i included some minimal & goa trance tracks in my list, but behind REAL Trance tracks like Airwave, Out Of The Blue, Cafe Del Mar, Age Of Love, etc.

Socoban,

I think you need to get over your criticism of the fact Airbase isn't in the list... I don't mind some of his stuff (mainly his remixing of others tracks), but there is nothing amazing about his production, that would grant inclusion in this list.... BUT as I have said before, one third of this list isn't amazing.... so I guess you could add one more NON-AMAZING track by Airbase to this list, and continue it's tradition at being an average list.

The more concerning thing, is the fact that you have, in some way been "influenced" (as you say in your post) by darktremor... In that instance, I feel very sorry for you, as DarkTremor is a self-absorbed MUPPET... and if you don't believe me, read his Profile.... I have never read a bigger load of crap on any website in my entire long life.

Dazzamack

yes, maybe Airbase isn't such an huge phenomenon but some of his tracks are particulary good, Escape is in my opinion his best track ever & i think it should at least have a low spot on a list that is arguably considered 'all-time'.

and yes, i can admit, i was slightly influenced Musically by him, when i say musically, i say: yes, i do like some of the minimal & goa-trance tunes that he listens. But that doesn't mean, i'm becoming as pretentious and selfish as Darktremor is (if that is what you mean).
and, finally, yes, his profile is pretty laughable and, yes, he's officially a self-absorbed muppet, well, maybe we should start a group on facebook called ''We hate Dartremor's pretentious list'' or even ''we hate darktremor'' xD, lol, just kidding.

Smokerz187,

I am no huge fan of this trance list... I find it's terribly pretentious and is missing many important trance tracks from years past, which I have mentioned about in many previous posts... however, your comments seem to be ill-thoughout, and in many ways, just plainly incorrect... What you are calling Techno IS in fact Trance, but it seems that your education in music may not be enough to distinguish the two genres... You may want to read up on what makes a trance tune &/or techno tune before you make any further comments...

The fact you are Italian doesnt mean anything about your incorrect comment about the Datura track.. It is early trance, and go checkout Discogs website, if you don't believe me. Hey BTW, I'm Half Italian.. does that make me know less about Datura than you... what a foolish comment...

In fact all the tracks you listed as TECHNO are in fact trance (some depending on the mix or remix), for example the Go track by Moby, depending on the mix is either Techno or Trance.

Look, I don't have a problem with you or anyone else making a comment about your opinions... it's good to get other points of views or song suggestions... but at least make sure your comments aren't clearly wrong, because your opinion then loses it's validity and makes you look silly.

Lastly... you don't need to swear in your post.. It doesn't make you tough... there's nothing worse than a internet tough-guy...

Hi guys, I'm new here but I listen to trance music for few years... so I'd like to suggest one song that I think belongs to this list, and even though I see you're not a big Tiesto fan, I'd recommend his good old song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD-Fkj9VtH4 (Tiesto-Nyana)

DarkTremor... YOU ARE A MUPPET!!!!...

I initially thought that your list was ok, as you seemed to know about the Classic Trance tracks that I grew up with... and I previously added posts to assist you in making your list more solid... but it is now clear to me that you are nothing but a Generation-Y know-nothing, that tries to pass himself off as some genius in all matters... including trance music... Stop trying to make yourself out to be some trance expert... you weren't there when this stuff evolved, unlike me... Damn, you are only in your mid-20s, what the hell would you know...

I read your profile recently and it has to be the biggest load of ego-maniacal, self-absorbed crap I have ever read online....

Here's a link if others haven't read this spew...

http://www.listology.com/users/darktremor

Anyway, I won't bother posting on this list anymore, as its just flooded with noobie trance-lovers who really have little perspective to debate the artform seriously with someone who has been listening to it for over 20 years...

Thank You DarkTremor for your excellent collection of trance music.
I have heard all of the 400(and more) tracks which you posted. These are
simply the best tracks one can find at a single location.

Now i know a little more about trance :-)

Solarstone seven cities- armin van buuren mix
Orjan Nilsen - Between the Rays
Solarstone vs Scott Bond - 3rd earth
Solarstone - Speak in Sympathy

Ferry Corsten- Sweet Sorrow

beautiful tune on tsnami :)

Firstly, thanks for the list. Really useful for me as an occasional trance listener, I'm more used to progressive house.
I think that sometimes there is a very thin line between progressive trance and progressive house, and depending on the individuals the same track may be cataloged differently.
I would like to know if these tracks aren't in the list because you don't consider them good enough or because you consider them not being trance (instead progressive house):

Ariane - Eternity
Pappa & Gilbey - Skindeep
Space Manoueuvres - Stage One
Way Out West - The Fall (Bedrock Vocal Mix)
Way Out West - Killa

Thanks.

Lovely list, it exposed to a lot of unchartered territories and unfimiliar grounds of trance, I hadn't heard before, but I would personally think that you should have a look at some of these tracks, and I would love your response, coz I think they're really good as well:
Jam and Spoon- Follow me (wicked track, would prefer it over Stella)
Cherry Moon Trax- The House of House
Cherry Moon Trax- Let there be house
Yves Deryuter- Calling Earth
Yves Deryuter- Animals
Brainchild- Symmetry C
Nikolai- Ready to flow
Sven Vath- L' Esperanza
Fuzzy Logic- Obsession

Im glad to see someone having a go, but after seeing this list i may make my own. You have hardly touched on the underground tracks. To say that there isnt a NOSTRUM track in this list is beyond me. Such a pioneer of trance, he should certainly get another look. I see voodoo & serano in the list.... Never seen them in a trance event in my life, they are producers of hard house or bouncy to the numpty. To have ATB & fragma ( tocas miracle) is totally unjust! Tocas miracle is a mash up using a classic ibiza trance track with a woman dubbed over it, surely the original should be placed instead. As for ATB (lol) what a pile of ****. If you included him you got to include robert miles and his children track, as it was at number 1 for many weeks and grossed more money than ATBs entire music library. Your rules are fine but selection process needs a rethink. Cant help but imagine the trancers out there laughing at this thread. paraphonatic's track called re-incarnation should defo be in here as it was leading track in the german parade 1995. you have humate as number 1? Surely this is your preference and not reality! You have humate at number 1 but you have not 1 mzone track. Yet the track you placed at number 1 is on mzone's record label. This makes me think that you arnt old enoigh to remember the real tracks. Anyways its a good atempt

Im going to make my own list. If dazza still on here i would appreciate some help

chakra - home on warner - i havent seen it on the list so far (unless i missed it). this beauty is in my top five of all time if not number one. sweet memories of the late nineties. this song was massive in uk at clubs like gatecrasher, godskitchen and passion. remarkable tune in terms of the emotional lyrics and the balance of trance at its best.

Arrgh the gatecrasher days. Lisa lashes, ann savage & judge jools. Good times! I remember tracks like phat b bass drum, delerium silence and of coure jonahs listen. Ssssssshhhh be quiet!

yea man you know the score, shame these djs dont play like they used to hehe, remember mario piu - the vision or maurio picotto - back to cali :)

Sorry for actually asking a question like this on such a specialist subject. I've been rackin my brain trying to remember a certain trance song. Strangely, I don't even remember how the actual tune goes atall. All I remember is the video so I was hopin you could help. The video was of a man in a black hooded robe (hood up), and he was carryin a white cross on his back. He was on a pebbled beach (I think) and looked to be bald. He looked as if he was strugglin and had his head down. If it doesn't exist, or is well known I apologise, it's just been a constant annoyance as I cannot remember anythin about it, apart from that certain section of the video.

- Thanks!

vincent de moor - flowtation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2YDZOItGWU

nice track, i think it was the very first track produced by Vincent de Moor, right?
and i think yes, it definately deserves a spot on this list, although i think this list will be no longer updated.

The Ambush - everlast (original mix)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YdMx6u1HHs

Good job with the list. Lots of true classics here.

By the way, check out #84 and #133, as you have Claude VonStroke's "Who's Afraid of Detroit?" listed twice.

this list is a fucking joke =)))
"Top 400 trance tracks of all time" my ass. it's HIS top 400 trance tracks!

I mean how retarded can u be to include Zion - No fate, but not Scooter's version of No fate? This guys is just another biased deepshit who thinks good music is what HE likes.

...Not to mention Dune - can't stop raving, kay cee - escape 2, ayla - liebe, adam K & soha's mix of need to feel loved, pf project - choose life etc. etc. And this are not just my favorites, they are the most popular tunes trough the years, not piece of shit unknown tracks like these, which all have 100 views combined on youtube.

I like unknown tracks too, as a matter in fact my favorite tunes are 50% produced by almost unknown artists, some of them not even signed, but I'm not so dumb to consider them BEST OF ALL TIME, I have enough IQ to realize that they are just MY favorites. they didn't become popular for a very good reason moron!

go kill urself retard

----
PS: to anyone who is interested in making a REAL top trance list based on the track release date / # youtube views let me know

Ok, as for the moment you should be definitely listening to Lady Gaga's new album.

If you're Romanian, I do understand your frustration.

http://www.listology.com/moderntrancemusic/list/my-favourite-top-50-atmo...

These are my favorite uplifters since 2000.. I know the list is flawed as I should run through thousands of tracks which is pretty hardcore. Also it's very Anjunabeats/Deep based. So, it's kind of my favorites list but also focuses on more modern trance music that hasn't been rightfully noted on any other list. Non-mainstream to be sure. I have practically zero interest in listening to new "trance" as it's either bland uplifting, progressive or simply EDM.

As for darktremor's list, I used to like it around 2010. Now I think it's narrow-minded or nihilistic in a sense. My taste in trance is dreamy & uplifting mostly and I see very few of those tracks here. What does minimal techno have to do with trance anyhow? It's not trance, it's minimal techno. Trance = Combination of ethereal ambient and techno. But that's just like uhh, my opinion man.

Well, I had 2 amazing days with your list and youtube next to it whilst hearing the tracks! Whether or not this is THE all-time list I will not debate because 1) I'm not an expert 2) Can there anything be more subjective than music-taste?? But in the end, that doesn't matter at all! You made a great effort listing up a nice trance-repertoire. It must be around 15 years ago that I really was into trance so a lot of my memory has gone blank and this list just freshed it up. I even got to discover some new tracks!
2 more tracks came to mind which I couldn't find in your list:
1) CM - Dream Universe
2) BBE - 7 days and 1 week
Probably you will have a perfectly good explanation why you didn't include them but to me these are awesome tracks. Maybe somebody mentioned them already in the 7-pages long comments, but I don't have the time to check that out.
And probably I am the only person in the world to not like Underworld - Born Slippy, didn't like it ages ago, I still don't and I still can't figure out why :-) (but hey, that's taste right?).
O and before I forget: I like Ferry Corsten's take on Push - Universal Nation a little more than the original!

Above and Beyond ft. Richard Bedford - Sun and Moon

Great track, emotional lyrics, sounds a bit like house to me but people say it's trance... Worth listening
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEa5C3P_GIY

Tiesto-Young Lions

The old Tiesto is back, great trance track.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIziRbshqdY

Eric Prydz - Pjanoo

I can't believe this is not on the list.

gerrard8, the Above & Beyond track you mentioned is horrible. Vocals frequently ruin true Trance anthems. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6obAse1rbbk&feature=related This is an exception.

A song that should be on here is Memnon - Desire [Dub Mix/Flying Song]. THE VERSION that's featured on 1994 album Trance Nation Vol. 4 Mixed by Ferry Corsten.

It's quite hard to find on the web, unless you order the album. It's available to hear on:

Dudes, it's amazing... At least I think it is... I'm not an expert for trance, but this is awesome, I don't know if it fits in this list cause I've recently changed my music from old school trance to this new one... please comment

Forget all my previous posts... maybe at certain moments I liked some songs too much, but this one does without a doubt belong to this list, with no excuses...

You have exquisite taste but you unfortunately don't understand the techno scene at all. Every one of those that you identified as possible techno tracks, most acid trance and most minimal trance (and more) really are all various forms of tech. Techno is only in part repetitive drone. Most tech from the US, especially from Detroit/Chicago, sounds more at home in an epic Dutch trance night that in would do in Tresor Berlin for instance. Detroit techno is actually a founding precursor to trance and is highly melodic and emotionally driven.

Depends on how anal/accurate you wish to be?

Great List. Lol'd at all your rules before hand.

http://www.thebesttrance.com/

359. Armin van Buuren - Communicate
it's actually called Communication, and I really don't see the reason why it isn't in top 200 at least, that song is incredible

Transa-Prophase
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mgx65Pvkgw&feature=BFa&list=WLEE0D8929E7...
No wonder it's not on the list, it's terribly unpopular, barely 2k views on youtube... it's a nice tune, check it out
EDIT: After I saw Transa-Supernova on the list and loved it, I searched for some more tracks made by Transa, turns out they're total geniuses...
Transa-Outlander
Transa-Kinetic

Undiscovered masterpieces... check those tracks out, you won't regret it

Probably already been pointed out but:
70. William Orbit - Water from a VINE Leaf NOT WINE Leaf...
And that's my OCD...
just joined to post my correction

I'm so sorry that people are no longer active on this page, I just got into this list and every day I realize better how good this list is... Tracks like those are not made anymore, and the great feeling when listening to those classics I am sharing with myself only, as no one around knows anything about music like this. I just wish I was born earlier and not in '95 or at least that tons of DJs start doing stuff like this, which lets me realize I'll always regret I wasn't born earlier... sad

Hey Great list of music!! At least 100 songs on this list are on my computer that i listen to regularly. A few songs you might like would be
Oneworld by Lingus
Shadow Hearts and Kingdom Fall by Miikka Leinonen
they are really chill songs that make you really think about the great trance artists out there

can anyone tell me about forest trance and name good tracks...which can be on this list

I've never heard of that genre. Could you give an example?

Scooter - Rhapsody in E [1994] [Acid/Classic Trance]
Seriously, give this song a listen. It's pretty good.

Awesome list. Although I'd personally add in Love Washes Over (Airwave Remix) by Art of Trance as well.

Hey dude, dunno if you still wander by here anymore, or if you update when ya do, but I'm using my first comment in two years to tell you to to add "Lollipop Man" - Union Jack (1994) to the list. It is amazing. Hope all is well,

Yahel - Anoni

fuckin amazing track...

nice ...

I think this list lacks:
Marc Dawn - Expander (Flutlicht Remix)
& even better (or maybe more poppish) one:
Friends of Matthew - Out There (Lange Remix)

I'm curious. How did you whittle down your Underworld and Fluke selections to this list? Oh, and this isn't fair since this list is so old, but: Son Kite. Anything by said artist. They have since disbanded, but still. ANYTHING by Son Kite.

Loving the list by the way nice work bro keep it up !.. most of the classics have made it ... Although i would like to add some that are missing if thats ok .. These choices of songs are not necessarily trance beats although some of them are .. hope you will enjoy xo

This comment is so full of fail I logged in just to point it out.

You cannot simply post ISOS 6(?) and say "this!" Sandstorm is on there. Cafe Del Mar is near the top!

The ONLY song on your list worth a glance is Chase My Rabbit, which is Marcus Schossow. Fuck. Stop downloading torrents and google Ishkur's Guide.

I have a Question for anyone that can help me, Because you all seem to know what your talking about....For years, I have been trying to get the name of this trance song that I heard, it has stuck in my head for years, I only heard it once, never heard it again, but a DJ at the tunnel many years ago, when the scene, was a scene started his set with this, And this track was amazing, and it puts you into a zone,where its so hypnotic that if the voice in the song said punch the person next to you in the mouth, there would of been a complete riot on the dance floor, because everyone looked like zombies from this track .....anyway, this is going to be tough trying to explain this. But you guys are my only hope, especially you, darktremor, you seem to be up on your shit......But for about five minutes straight there is just a womans voice going " the Beat", the beat to beat, the Beat, the beat to beat, then bass drum comes in with here, then after ever "the beat the beat to beat" its follow up by two high pitch notes on a syth, really high notes that accompany the measurement. With a sick bass line that comes in , and those two notes just being played high and then an octave higher, it was simple, but amazing. I was able to ask the dj what that track was called that night, but with noise level so high, all I can make out , that I will never forget he said was something like " THE CHOCOLATE TRACK" .....thats what it sounded like he said to me, I have search on and off for years to somehow to find this track.....If anything rings a bell to anyone, I would so appreciate it...... THanks.......You guys are my only hope

This is an awesome list! Some little know pre-2000 tracks you may want to check out:

Utah Saints - Star (Union Jack mix)
Slacker - Your Face
Anything by Union Jack
Anything on Platipus Records
Anything on Additive Records
Anything on Neo Records Red
The original mix of Cass & Slide's 'Perception' is far superior to the vocal mix, which, by contrast, turns it into a cheesefest. Example: 'You can see, forever. Look inside of your mind.' what the fuck? Shit.
Paganini Traxx - Zoe (Timo Maas mix)
Also the original mix of Y-Traxx - Mystery Land far surpasses the remix you have included. Same goes for Tin Tin Out - 'Strings For Yasmin'
Faithless - Salva Mea (Sister Bliss mix)
DJ Thomas Krautmann - Moments (DJ Session One remix)
Way Out West - Ajare
Maria Nayler - Angry Skies
Countless other productions out of the thousands of records I have that aren't on this list.
And it's William Orbit - Water From A VINE leaf, not WINE leaf, you brainwashed media whore. Just thought I'd point that out again. Mekka - Diamondback and Jan Johnston - Flesh are shit. You know fuck all you Yankee tosspot. Love Stimulation is a good track, granted. I've owned it a lot longer than you have. But it is by no means the best trance track ever. I was probably dancing to trance while you were shitting in your pants you fud. In fact I created this account just to slag you off, you cunt.

Also, the guys from Booka Shade would probably drag you into a dark alleyway and knock ten bells of shit out of you if they knew you included their music in a trance list. They most definitely do not make trance music. Same goes for Ame. I know this for a fact as I have seen both perform their own music live at a certain festival whose dance arena is devoted to TECHNO and is hosted by SLAM, who make TECHNO music and are credited with making one of the most important TECHNO productions of all time, in the form of the legendary 'Positive Education'.

James Holden used to make progressive house. He now makes techno. I've seen him perform live.

Leftfield - 'Phat Planet' is clearly breakbeat to anyone who knows dance music (European people). Idiot. It is not progressive house as it doesn't have a 4/4 beat. That is a significant characteristic of the various forms of house, techno and trance. And yep, you guessed it. I have seen Leftfield live as well, many moons ago (1996) when they were at their peak, just to reassure you.

And your attitude and pigeonholing of trance is fucking appalling. Trance is trance, the whole spectrum. 'Progressive' trance does not exist. Same goes for 'epic' trance and 'anthem' trance and all these other variations that only an American could invent. The only differentiation that can be distinguished is hard trance, which embraces the acid sound a lot more often and has a definitively harder sound and often faster tempo, hence the title.

Plus, most trance post 2000 is absolute garbage. And note that i said 'most'. There are exceptions.

I can't believe the amount of people who are praising you for this list, given your obnoxious introduction and discrediting of potentially proposed tunes BEFORE they've been proposed. Who do you think you are? It's people like YOU who have ruined dance music and the club scene, thinking you know what is what! You know what is what, but you don't what is what! You just strut, what the FUCK!?

Karl Hyde of Underworld used to go to pubs and record random conversations of people. That's why the lyrics of most Underworld tracks are odd. That's where most of his lyrics came from, along with his alcoholism.

And to everyone else: System F - 'Out Of The Blue' should be on the list. Along with a few more Ferry Corsten tunies. Same goes for Paul van Dyk ('Avenue' springs to mind).

This is coming from a guy who owns records from most genres of dance music and who has been raving it up for half of his existence, in clubs, at festivals and illegal raves. So yes I know my shit, and my shit is telling me that DarkTremor knows jack shit! He is a chinstroker who probably lingers around the DJ booth hounding the artist and asking him the name of every tune he plays, with a notepad and pen at the ready. Penis of the highest order.

Read your post.
You're a total moron, even more than Darktremor himself.
The fact that you claimed "Out of the Blue" should be on the list is laughable.
Also, the vocals in Perception complement the track. Without them, the track would be somewhat flat.

It's a-coming.

IT'S A-COMING!!!

Boo!

Why should Out Of The Blue NOT be on the list? Any track that sent the dancefloor wild at Gatecrasher during it's peak is a trance classic, because as someone said in a previous post, it was one of the clubs that encapsulated and defined the sound. Out Of The Blue fits that category. I was there. Ferry Corsten and his many aliases made a few good tunes during the late nineties. And I am moronic for stating that Platipus Records were instrumental in defining the trance sound? And that Union Jack is trance at it's finest?

You, my friend, are the moron.

I have Harthouse records and Noom records from back in the day, including perhaps their most notable release, Commander Tom's 'Eye Be M' and a plethora more. I also own a shitload of original Hardfloor vinyl including the now legendary 'Acperience 1' so don't tell me I am a moron.

Oliver Lieb did help evolve the trance sound, as did *shock, horror*, Sven Väth. In Frankfurt.

Who sings the vocal on 'Perception'? Yep, Naimee Coleman. Who also sang with Aurora on 'Hear You Calling'. I know that because I own both records. The more I listened to the vocal version, the more I realised why Sasha preferred the original mix and included it on his Global Underground: Ibiza CD (yes, I own that as well). The elements of the track itself are enough to build to a euphoric crescendo. The lyrics in the vocal mix are nonsensical. If you want decent lyrics in a progressive house or trance tune try Greed's 'Strange World' (Lemon8 Mix). Apart from the cheesy spoken world element early on, the vocal is fantastic and has meaning.

I have a progressive house and breaks mix by Cass from his own, now defunct, label, Fire! Records. His label prior to that was called Flying Rhino.

Did you know that Guy Ornadel was Sasha's manager when he was signed to Excession? I'll be honest and say I am unsure if he still is.

The best DJ set I ever heard was by a DJ called John Kelly, who you've probably never heard of, even though he was resident DJ at
Quadrant Park. A notable club from the nineties.

Did you know that Armin made the track 'Blue Fear' when he was 19?

I remember the first track I heard at Gatecrasher's Summer Soundsystem in 2000 was Steve Morley's 'Reincarnations', played by Mauro Picotto in the Hard Nation arena.

Just a few facts from the top of my head.

Check out Guy Ornadel's Essential Mix from around 12 years ago. It's probably on Soundcloud. I dunno, because I still have it on cassette tape somewhere. Complete with the tracklisting cut out of a copy of Mixmag when they used to provide Essential Mix tracklistings in every issue.

And I am right. Even when I am wrong I am right!

And in this day and age trance is vapid. Go and listen to some classic Autechre, Aphex Twin, any Ninja Tunes compilation, Plump DJs (who have been consistent for more than a decade with their productions), Stanton Warriors, Dutch producers Noisia, Danny Howells, James Zabiela and educate yourself about other forms of dance music and their individual merits. Get some Shpongle on as well. Nick Warren is also one of the most underrated DJs kicking around. Listen to any of his GU compilations. I heard him play on the Phazon soundsystem in 2001. Which is a unique soundsystem that was developed specifically for the club Twilo, which was on West on 27th in New York and it's notable resident DJs were none other than Sasha and John Digweed, who I have also seen play together live on 3 occasions. Which is apparently pretty rare.

While we're on the subject, did you know that Breeder (producers Rowan Blades and Simon Noble) produced their tracks specifically for Sasha and John Digweed to play at Twilo?

I have also heard the Valve d&b soundsystem in 2005. Which is widely considered to be the loudest music soundsystem in the world at more than 90,000 watts. Louder than Leftfield's.

So moron, most certainly not. Appreciator of all forms of dance music and despiser of continual pigeonholing, yes!

You've bitten off more than you can chew, my friend. I had totally forgotten about this post, but I am a walking encyclopaedia of dance music in all it's various forms.

Ask me about Frankie Knuckles, Francois Kervokian, Underground Resistance, Larry Levan, Francis Grasso, Studio 54, why house music got it's name, why US garage got it's name, the history of Detroit techno, the Korg MS-20, Electribe, Roland TB-303, TR-808, TR-909! I dare ya! Go for it!

Well said friend, if you know as much as you say, tell me as much about Salt Tank as you can, I am very interested in this particular artist(s) and would like to know more. Also the origins of Tiesto's (mostly) Forbidden Paradise series. I know I am not the person you are vying for, but you seem like an intellectual on the subject.

Hey, Darktremor! I'd like to say that this is a MASSIVE list with some amazing tracks (Age Of Love is one of my favourites) and that I admire You for the time You had to waste listening to all these songs, and the self-determination You had to have while making this list. I wanted to give some recommendations myself and I was wondering: is there a limit for number of recommendations per comment? Because I would not like to flood You with songs.

Some recommendations:

Lepore - Trust Me

Planet Perfecto f. Grace - Not Over Yet '99

Ayla - Liebe

System F - Your Face (In The Crowd Remix)

Are you sure that wasn't Slacker- 'Your Face' mate? You had the 'In The Mirror' and the 'In the Crowd' mix on the same record. Shame Shem McCauley passed away. He made some cracking tunes.

i REALLY need some help! im obsessed with a song and i dont remember the name or the name of the artist...:(
it was trance (to me it sounded like trance). the video was somehow in slowmotion, it had dinoasaurs walking around and a guy that said smth like 'whoa machine, whoa machine, whrap around, wharp around your body'. please excuse my stupidity, i was very young, and heard this on MTV...

Sounds like dinosaur adventure 3d by underworld or another song by underworld.

May the heaven bless you. Thanks.
