- Microhouse is dead. Trance has been buried. Deep house was annihilated long ago. Straight progressive is on the autopsy table. Dub is a corpse. Dance pop, funky house, ambient dance, and acid are roadkill, and all of the dance kings of yesteryear have been crushed by the twin hulking titans of minimal techno and eletrohouse, those once great genres reduced to carcasses of irrelevancy, debris in the path of the new rulers of the nightclub.
- However, whenever something is oppressed, there is always a resistance. These styles had and have too many fans to go quietly into their artistically deadlocked and over-templated nights.
- So what happened? Clearly no revolution. Minimal still rules the electronic dance underground (and really, rightfully so). No, this rebellion is more subtle. The echoes of these now-dead, once-powerful dance gods are being heard beyond the grave; the ghosts of progressive, trance, deep house, dance pop, acid, and every other dead electronic dance genre are haunting their executioners. Listen closely, and their anguished cries can be heard through the wall of minimal, electrical sound now oppressing electronic dance.
- In other words, progressive, trance, deep house, dance pop, ambient dance, funky house, and acid have come back, in the form of massively convoluted hybrids with electrohouse and minimal techno.
- And here are the best of them:

- Note: Psyhouse isn't a real genre name, I made it up to describe the melodic and psychedelic minimal progressive house coming out lately. also, some of this crosses over slightly with neo-trance and microhouse, as these things are basically progressions of those styles).

Once again, I'm curious: are there any good albums in either genre?
Yes. But they're not consistant with each other, and there's no way that any one album could introduce you to the entire concept. Still, here are a few good ones (although all are VERY different from each other):
Dominik Eulberg - Kreucht and Frecht (this is the best example, actually, it's mostly this style)
Ricardo Villalobos - Achso
Ricardo Villalobos - The Au Harem D'Archimede
Chris Salt - Future House (not entirely this genre...some straight prog too)
Perlon - Superlongevity 4 (again, not all this style)
The Get Physical 4th anniversary compilation also has a lot of the stuff on it (as a lot of it comes from electrohouse).
Can't find anything about Kreucht and Frecht. Does this translate as Flora and Fauna? Is it this one?
No, that's a different album. Sorry, I spelled it wrong. It's Kreucht and Freucht.
it's actually called Kreucht and Fleucht
You're right...thank you. (I had a mislabeled version) *fixes
Although I'm not a big fan of this microtrance stuff at all, "Bod Language"- MANDY vs Booka Shade (Afrilounge Deep Mix) is one I really like.
I have some suggestions that might not fit under this genre at all, but they sounded similar to me... and I love both of these songs to death.
- The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (Trentemoller Remix)
- The Knife - Like a Pen
Yeah, The Knife is a pretty good example of this music breaking out (if you can really call it that).
I like it. I'll have to download that Trentemoller mix though.
For the record, it's Mathew Jonson (one 't').
Yes, you're right. Thanks.
Ohhhh #2 is a fantastic song. It was my favorite for a while back there.
Indeed, almost like the best parts of electro-house, trance, and minimal rolled together into one song.
