Good list, but some key missing bands to me would be:

Pixies
Fugazi
Wire (I'll 2nd luke)

And, worth considering, though perhaps not as directly punk as the rest would be:

Suicide
Sonic Youth
Nirvana

I never thought of the Pixies as punk, but I do like them a lot. The same goes to Nirvana and Sonic Youth. Fugazi and Wire would be in the top 25 definitely. Maybe I should change it to top 25.

yea, the last 3 I mentioned were somewhat questionable. Nirvana are the most traditionally punk out of all of them. Much of Bleach, Incesticide and Nevermind are punk albums, though In Utero steers away from the genre more than the others. Sonic Youth and Suicide are a stretch, but I've seen them classified as punk before. In all 3, the spirit of punk is certainly evident, but it also was with Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones...and John Lennon for that matter.

Wire should get in and Fugazi is an absolute must. Repeater may be the greatest punk album of all time. Seriously. It's a punk fans dream come true.

Yeah I was sticking to pure punk bands. I changed it to top 25. There are so many great punk bands.

The bands on this list are pure punk bands, not bands that have punk influences. Nirvana is a grunge band and help start that movement. Grunge bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden have punk influences, but are not pure punk. I love all of these bands.

Great to see Wire and Fugazi making a much deserved entrance on this list. Good idea to go with 25. How about the Pixies? Overall they are possibly the greatest punk band of all time! At the very least, they're the most diverse (The Clash challenges).

Should have stuck with 20. If you're going to pick a crappy mallcore band, you should have picked one The Ataris steal from rather than The Ataris themselves. :)
