Hey, it's nice to see you're into minimal now too. It's totally where trance has gone these days (and thankfully so).
Nice list, although I'm surprised you rated "Night Falls" over "Mandarine Girl." Well, they're both very good tracks either way.
hmm, maybe in retrospect mandarine girl IS better, at the time i was very into listening to night falls so that's probably why it got such a high placement. I'm Dloading Clicks and Cuts 2 Atm, so that should help to make this the top 100 :)
darktremor
u r a legend man. Your Best Trance mixes of all time helped me a lot. Thanks
I am now into minimal techno as well. after hearing Coconut blues by ananda i m lovin it.
Just Check MIxotic 160 at mixotic.net .
Nice list neptune. can u give us a torrent for this ?
thnks
What about
A Break in The Clouds (main mix) - James Holden?
good point *adds+* thanks
Have you heard Michael Mayer's Immer and Immer 2?
Here are some of my favorite tracks from them:
Someone Else - Ploosh
Frank West - 2nd Booty
Jesse Somfay - Lying in a Bed of Myst
Carsten Jost - Krokus (Superpitcher Remix)
Selway - Flying Far
Paul Nazca - Surface
------------------
Pantha du Prince's The Bliss is my favorite minimal album. Florac is my favorite track on it.
------------------
I'll leave it at that for now, but if you want more suggestions, I'll toss some more at you.
Thanks for the suggestions, sorry for lack activity and late reply, been really busy recently, but I will reply to everything soon and make some updates (:
Would minimal techno be considered for this list? If so, I'd recommend some Plastikman, Basic Channel, and Jeff Mills.
Yeah, I'm not sure, at the present moment no (mainly becuase my knowledge and resources of minimal techno is lacking), but I won't rule it out for the future. Any particular songs by those artists?
How long has Que Belle Epoque had the top spot? I hadn't noticed that change until now. A quality song I agree. Haven't listened to any Ricardo recently actually except for 808 Bassqueen. Also how come there is no longer numbering for the list? I'm assuming if you did add minimal techno the undisputed number 1 would become Plasticine?
There is numbering for the list...I think? Maybe you Mac is playing up or something, the numbers are here for me. And yeah Plasticine probably would take number one spot, but is it really Minimal Techno in the same way as say, Pensum? And Que Belle Epoque took the top spot about a week ago, the list had needed updating for some time and for a while I had considered it.
Archived, eh? Do you really think minimal is dead? I've heard a number of pretty original tracks this year.
No far from dead, though I haven't listened to any Minimal (or much electronic at all) for a while now. The reason for this is simple; my old computer which had soulseek on is basically dead (and the internet kept failing on it), and I had to move some music over to a newer one. I had loads of music, so much so that I couldn't move it all in one go, and at the time of moving I had been listening really keenly to rock so that was the genre which was moved the most (although I did move a few electronic favourite of mine - Autechre: Amber, Biosphere: Shenzou & Substrata, Aglaia: 3OE and a few others). I've since then been listening to more and more rock, and finding out more about the whole genre by downloading quite a few albums (and I've been looking into jazz too, your list has been a good starter for that). In time, I will definitely move all my minimal, trance, techno, hardcore, jungle etc, but until then I'm not keeping up with the genre and my list (not the genre itself) is outdated. I will un-archive it when I come back to it though definitely. I hope that made sense.
It does, for sure. Musically expanding is always a good idea anyway. For further explorations, I recommend checking out some ethnic music (mali has some good stuff) as well as some of the old funk/soul/blues music.
Thanks, I'll definitely check that out later on, think you could make a list of some recs that I could refer to? It's just that I wouldn't know where to start otherwise, Listology is where I get most of my musical recommendations from.
Hmmm...
This year I'm not 100% following (busy, as always).
But I find this a good list to use at the end of each year:
Resident Advisor's list
That's actually a great site in general for finding electronic music. They follow what's actually good pretty well, and don't get stuck in banal music ruts like most electronic music sites (IE: trance.nu or tranceaddict). The site was pretty big on progressive house when it started, then it shifted into more electro-house sounds, then minimal techno, and now it's minimal house and "neo-trance" dominated. Still, they're pretty across-the-board in what they review, it's just their focus that changes (and what gets the best reviews and dominates the top track lists - ie: they'll sometimes still review epic trance if it comes out, it will just be torn apart by the writers and won't make any year-end charts). I also like Philip Sherburne's site - his monthly tracklistings are a source of many favorites of mine (he's basically THE minimal electronic dance guru; his productions and live sets are pretty good too).
Here are a few I've found from this year that stand out (basically from those two sources):
Brendon Moeller - N-Train
Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia - Dead Souls (Radio Slave Long Distance Kiss Mix)
Johnny D - Orbitalife
Kassem Mosse - Untitled (A1)
Jackmate - Buccaneer
Tobias. - I can't fight the feeling
Daniel Meteo - Beautiful (Junction SM mix)
Sebbo - Watamu Beach
I just unarchived this list, and I will definitely check out those songs, thanks!
Hey man, cheers for the recs, I've only got one so far but all the rest are downloading currently. Jackmate - Buccaneer is awesome. Such heavy bassline use makes me think of Beltram or Hawtin, but the melody reminds me of Que Belle Epoque or something by Villalobos. It's definitely great minimal, I'm glad I'm getting back into this genre.
Fabulous list, found quite a few brilliant tracks from this.
A few to consider
Thomas Schumacher - Pink Boots
Loco Dice - Tight Laces
Remote - Hardstick (La Horse Remix)
Shonky - Time Zero (Paul Ritch Remix)
Soliquid - Piknic Bugs (Gone Wild Mix)
Kabale und Liebe - Mumbling Yeah
I forgot these few...
Guy Gerber & Shlomi Aber - Sea of Sand
Guy Gerber - Belley Dancing
Shlomi Aber - Freakside
Thanks very much for your kind words, and for your recommendations. I don't have any of them, except for Sea of Sand (which is an awesome track which will be added soon) so I'll get to work on getting hold of them.
Kabale und Liebe - Mumbling Yeah in particular, I really think you'll enjoy (It's also at the top of that resident advisor list I linked). It's the essence of well-done minimal: doing quite a lot with a little.
Nothing by Extrawelt??
Also it's spelled: Mathew Jonson
