I know some of these picks are very unimaginative and commercial. What can I say; overall it was a weak year and none of these would be in my top 10 of the nineties (Go would be close). It is simply easiest to make a list from last year since those movies are fresh in my mind.

Finally, someone else gives Fight Club the recognition it deserves. It is probably the most underrated and missunderstood film of 1999. It seems that most people think it is some "MTV Generation" flop because of its in-your-face style, rather than another brilliant and subtle tour-de-force from David Fincher. Not only was it mesmerizing and beautifully shot, but it was easily one of the funniest (if strangely) movies of the year.
Very interesting. While I am not a fan of October Sky or Election and have yet to see American Pie, Cookie's Fortune, or Fight Club, I definitely enjoy the other films on your list. Where is Being John Malkovich?
Shalom, y'all!

Regarding Malkovich, I loved the first half, and thought it was easily the most original movie of last year. However, the second half lost a lot of momentum, concerning the puppeteering direction. Also, I was not crazy about the ending concerning the elderly group.
