Thoughts on 24 finale

They had me until the very end where Chase was getting his hand reattached and Jack broke down crying. What was with that? He goes through three of the worst days of his life, loses his wife in season 1, blows a nuclear bomb in season 2 and he's this affected by cutting off his dumbass partner's hand? Probably not the place to vent but I had to do it somewhere. Feel free to contradict me and share your thoughts.
