  • i'V HAD LISTS IN HERE OF TOP 10, 20 AND 100 SONGS OF ALL TIME. yET, SOMETHING WAS ALWAYS MISSING. i HAVE FINALLY DECIDED ON WHAT i BELIEVE TO BE THE 10 GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME. i COUNT MELODY, MUSIC AND LYRICS. aLSO i TAKE IN ACCOUNT SONG STRUCTURE AND OVERALL MUSICIANSHIP. THIS WAS A TOUGH TEN TO COME UP WITH, BUT HERE THEY ARE. tHE TEN GREATEST SONGS PF ALL TIME.
  • 10. Light my Fire The Doors-A great timeless song that shows why The doors were great. All the wonderful qualities of The Doors are summarized in this brilliant masterpiece of a song.
  • 9. Just Like Romeo And Juliet The Reflections-What can I say? this song is what top 40 radio should always sound like. This is the most upbeat love song I've ever heard and every time I hear it, I become in a good mood. A wonderful little song.
  • 8. Rocket Man Elton John- Elton and Bernie Taupin are obviously a great songwriting duo. Here, they even out did themselves. This song is over and beyond any other Elton John song. Vocally, this song impresses me more than most, and melodically its hard to beat.
  • 7. She's A Rainbow The Rolling Stones-Here is the quintessential Stones cut. Psychedelia at its peak, coupled with great music and vocals. here The Stones let it all hang out.
  • 6. A Salty Dog Procol Harum-Hauntingly beautiful, this piece is like no other. It holds me in awe. The vocals are sad and mystic. A groundbreaking masterpiece of epic proportions that will always have a spot in my top ten.
  • 5. Scenes From An Italian Restaraunt Billy Joel-This song is so well orchestrated and put together its haed to believe. There are several different parts to this song, and all are great and fit together well. The best story telling song there is. Screw American Pie and Cats In The Cradle.
  • 4. Sara Fleetwood Mac-Wow. That pretty much sums it up for me. Wow. The Vocal progression and energy of said vocals by Stevie Nicks is what singing should be measured by. A class on how to write songs could be based on this song alone.
  • 3. Nights In White Satin The Moody Blues-Here could be the greatest of all songs if it werent for the two ahead of it. The Moody Blues are known for writing wonderfully orchestrated opuses, and here is their best. They have about 6 songs in my top 100. No shit.
  • 2. Fearless Pink Floyd-This song is not one of the more well known Floyd cuts, but it should be. Why you ask? Because, it's their best. I dont even want to explain why, just listen...
  • 1. Pretty Ballerina The Left Banke- Released in 1967 by the band who did "Walk away Renee", this song is the best of the best. The haunting melodies and vocals coupled with the un matched music with the violins and cellos is grand. If you have not heard this, please do everything within your power to do so.

WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It takes some serious cojones to post such a list. I couldn't do it, personally. So I'm impressed by the feat itself. That said, our taste ain't the same. :-)

well..give me a general idea of your tastes home boy.

Well, I'm not comfortable tackling "greatest" in my strongest genre (movies), so I'm certainly not going to try here in my weakest genre. But if I were to craft a 10 favorite songs of all time (and I'm not going to :-) it would probably include stuff by Fishbone, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris (recent stuff), Tracy Chapman, John Mellencamp, REM, Nirvana, and perhaps U2. I've mostly grown weary of Elton John, Billy Joel, The Moody Blues, and Fleetwood Mac (although I have liked them all at various times in my life). I've never liked The Doors or Pink Floyd.

Those are worthy candidates for big positions. Great staple bands that have great songs.
