The Rolling Stones, though not as fluid or as brilliantly concieved as the Beatles or the Talking Heads, represent Rock and Roll at its most elemental and rebellious.

Very good taste for most of that. I'm not into punk as much, but that's just me. Beatles are a favorite of mine, and Talking Heads are great. the Band, Stones, Who, and Kinks are also wonderful groups.

Wow, what's not to love on this list? You even included Pavement and The Band. While this list may not quite mirror my own, every one of these bands can stake a claim on a top ten position, and for that, I certainly salute you!
