Stories Taken from a Chinese Pack of Folktale Cards (Not finished)

- Two of Spades: Flood Controlled by the Great Yu - Beside a river, a variation of different people line the shoreline: some hunters cornering a couple of horned animals, two men in quiet conversation watching the circus, a sage speaking with a blue and red furred dog, two ladies standing on an island between the river, one of the ladies with a long, rising feathered hairpin, and two men standing beside the river, one with a long hooked pole, the other standing beside a horse.
- Three of Spades: King Wen Loving Lotus - A kingly figure and attendants sitting peacefully in a red pavillion watches children play with lotus flowers in a large pond.
- Four of Spades: The Minister Wen Being Engaged in a Fierce War XiQi (the West) - Six earthly warriors and four heavenly warriors (denoted by the clouds that accompany them) duke it out on a grassy battlefield.
- Five of Spades: Hong Jin Attacking Chi - With three men observing, three mounted and five standing warriors battle beside a large river on a long, grassy plain.
- Six of Spades: King Ling of Chu Loving Slim Figure - Two dancers and four flutists perform for a king, attended by his scholars, some incense bearers, and two beautiful women waving fans at him.
- Seven of Spades: Mao Shi Stole a Magic with Which to Break the Wu Lei Battle Formation - A kid on a gray cloud holding a Taoist emblem floats between two armies of women, one led by a long and thinly black-bearded man, and the other by a puffy, red-bearded demon.
- Eight of Spades: A Mulberry-Leaves-Plucking Girl of Wu Yan County - A girl with a long, red pole stands beneath a willowy tree near a long breadth of grass, being spoken to by a yellow robed man and a quiet, blue robed man.
- Nine of Spades: Granted a Seal of Prime Minister of the Six States - A group of brightly robed men approach a gate, met by a group of palely robed men, as if in greeting and ceremony.








Like the title says... I bought this particular pack of cards at the Shi Family Big Garden, on the outskirts of Tianjin.
I hope to someday find out the actual stories behind these titles. The cards, of course, came with pictures, but until I buy a scanner, you'll have to deal with just the titles and the description I give from my perception of the picture.
