1 Devil Inside/Good Times - Don't all teenagers want to feel they're rebels? (also, featured at many high-school parties, second one from a favorite movie)
2 This Is the Time (to Remember) - Senior class song, and it just resonates
3 You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth - First major relationship, he said those three little words just before I was going to; it became our theme
4 I Need a Lover (Who Won't Drive Me Crazy) - Also from that relationship - actually dedicated it to him on the radio at one point (following his dedication, Metallica's Unforgiven, after a fight). Also good for the entire "looking for love" period of any life.
5 You Oughta Know - came out immediately after breakup of #3-4, amazingly appropriate at the time (he got married 8 months after the breakup)
6 Why Don't We Get Drunk (And Screw) - College, enough said
7 Fifth of July - was the day I moved from my hometown to New York City, and a favorite song besides. And who can resist a song where the refrain includes "I'm now on our own for the first of my life/on the fifth of july ... now what?" Perfect theme for moving away from hometown
8 Hand In My Pocket - Personal Theme Song - just expresses my attitude in life well, because I'm short but healthy, young and underpaid, and I haven't got it all figured out just yet
9 Bitch - every woman's theme song ("Tomorrow I will change/And today won't mean a thing")
10 Back in the High Life - just love it; and, I'm an optimist, always believing whatever is soming will be great, so ...
11 Lucky - how I generally feel about life and my current relationship ("I know we are... we are the lucky ones")
12 The Way You Look Tonight - First dance at my wedding; we're so retro and hokey ;-)
13 Anniversary Song - from one of my favorite groups, also used at the wedding - who can resist a refrain that includes "And I’ll share them all for a cup of coffee/ And to wear your ring"
14 Ring on the Sill - yeah, more CJ, I said they were a favorite. Good "slice of life" song from a marriage ("She placed her ring on the sill, dishes piled high ... He puts her ring on her finger, she brushes back his hair/He takes a sip from his glass, she inhales the cold fall air")
work in progress

I have a quite similar list called "Soundtrack of my life." Only the Good Die Young is also on my list...pretty cool to think about the role of music in our lives, eh? You reminded me to put John Mellencamp on my list. :0
Your list is what inspired my list, actually. And is also what reminded me to put that song on there (though I'm pretty sure I would have gotten it on my own, eventually). I need to dig out the tape mixes I made in college and put some of those on there. Have to do high school by memory though.
I sure don't know the group Eddie from Ohio or their (his?) song, but I think I like it already; my birthday is "Fifth of July"!
Johnny Waco
By all means, you should listen to the sample (from Amazon).
It was particularly appropriate for my moving day though, because the chorus says: "... feeling independant/ I'm out on my own/ for the first time in my life/ it's the Fifth of July/ .... now what?"
