Nice! Always wanted to try Karaoke, but never had the guts (nor do I know any Karaoke joints). I don't have that great a voice = that's my excuse.
Karaoke could never be about vocal skill or no one would ever do it. It's all about attitude, energy and abandoning all self-awareness (a little liquid courage helps some people). It also helps to have a group of friends with you, so you can ease in with duets, trios and such as well as have a built-in enthusiastic audience.
And pick songs you really know for goodness sake. That's the downfall of most karaoke novices: not a clue how the lyrics match the music without someone already singing.
In central Illinois there's a group that does live karaoke (i.e., you perform with a live band covering the hits). No fancy screens with scrolling words in rhythm, just a piece of paper with printed lyrics. Now that sounds like a great time to me, but quite a bit more difficult than the standard variety. I hope to get up there sometime to give Santeria a go.
I've been looking into Pro Tools technology (auto-tuning software) lately and wonder if it's been incorporated into the world of Karaoke yet. Anyone know? It would seem like the perfect match.
