Songs I've Gotten Stuck in My Head While Being a Meter Maid this Summer

Tags:
  • "The Teddy Bear Picnic" - this is the most common, and most insidious of the songs stuck in my head. It's a kid's song, and very weird.
  • "Following the Leader" from Disney's "Peter Pan" - I owned the record as a child but have no idea why.
  • "Thong Song" - on a slightly different note...
  • "Buildings and Bridges" by Ani Difranco - I wish this were the kind of song I tended to get stuck in my head
  • there are more, but I'm having a mental block...
  • "Waiting for Tonight" by Jennifer Lopez - Not so bad to get stuck in one's head. Very energizing at any rate.
  • "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen - I actually try to get this one stuck in my head as it makes me more energetic and is my favorite Queen song.
  • "I Wanna Be With You" Mandy Moore - This is an idiotic song they are constantly playing on the only radio station the meter dept. receives. Yuck. Sometimes I change the words to make it ironic, but somehow it doesn't help. I also get random commercials from the radio stuck in my head. Dark times...
  • "Ready to Run" by the Dixie Chicks - Same story as above. I hate country. At least new country. UGH!
  • "76 Trombones" from "The Music Man" - I have no idea other than that it's fun to whistle.

As a meter maid this summer, I walk around alone a lot. Hence, I often get songs stuck in my head. Unfortunately, I often get very weird songs stuck in my head.

the teddy bear picnic? god, that must be some sort of torture to have that stuck in your head. you have my complete empathy on that end. but very little empathy for being a meter maid.

now, what about "lovely rita meter maid" the beatles...?

i always seem to get "la cucaracha" (sp) and "no woman no cry" stuck in my head and they REFUSE TO GO AWAY. the funny thing about songs getting stuck in your head (i discovered this when i had "you've lost that loving feeling" stuck in my head playing solitaire the other afternoon)...at first you're humming it and that's when you realize its stuck in your head, then it's sort of annoying you and you're singing it, and then....then there comes an epiphany...a point...when you are ACTUALLY trying to sing the song well. hitting the notes correctly and your voice is doing vibrato and the whole nine yards.

yeah well.
i get songs stuck in my head a lot.
i get parking tickets a lot too.

hahahahahahahahhahahahhahahah.... (prick laugh) related to the tickets... It's funny, but being a meter maid kind of makes you evil in that you want to distribute many tickets. Don't get me wrong, I cut people slack and I'm still nice about my job, but, well, you laugh inside. We are evil. Fear us. Glad someone's heard the Teddy Bear Picnic song!

everytime i see a meter maid from now on, i will picture them thinknig "haha. we are evil. fear us."

i think you just kinda made my day, actually.

jen man!!! i wanna hear all about your gig as a meter maid....email me or write soon, love your private screening, partner in crime....katherine

ps. the thong song is stuck in my head too!! have any tips for banishing songs from one's head? besides replacing one song with another....:)

Evidently, the secret to removing a song from one's head is to sing it (in your head) all the way through to the end, so there is some sort of closure. You'll notice that it usually isn't the whole song thats stuck, just a part. It has worked for me when I can remember the whole song, but sometimes requires research into the complete lyrics.

my testimony stands: la cucaracha. how much of the song is there to know? no matter what i do, this song will not leave my head. researching the lyrics, i'm afraid, just doesn't seem to help. but i bet that works on some songs...

Hey dude! I keep intending to write you postcards! In fact, I already have one written and addressed. How much do I suck? Answer: Lots and lots. Oh well I'll save all this for the e-mail or postcard I owe you. In the meantime I have not forsaken you and I am reading (at your suggestion) An Unquiet Mind. And it is good. Maybe good reading for our support group.
