I sang these songs in the street as a younster, to my mothers dismay. Only later did I realize why they bothered her so. Some of these songs hinted that there was a deeper meaning that I wasn't grasping (what IS a virgin anyway, mom?) and others were so far over my head that I thought they were simply 80's anthems...I never even caught the undertones. And I thought they were harmless and innocent. Ha!

i believe _obsession_ was by a band called animotion... (what were they trying to invoke with a name like that, hmmm?) my older brother had it on vinyl and i thought he was so *bad.*
dude man, I thought Papa Don't Preach was innnocent too! I used to walk around my grandparents' house singing it. I thought "I'm keeping my baby" meant her boyfriend for a while. Then my grandpa got all worried and it was explained to me. But I kept singing it. Ha ha ha ha ha. A rebel at 8.
That is EXACTLY what I thought. My mom explained it to me and we had it out. I was SURE she was talking about her boyfriend!
Here is an oldie for this list. Freda Payne's Band of Gold. That is unless you think Mens impotence is an innconent topic
Seems like a nice little story of man who did her wrong song and she was left on her wedding night by some cad.
Well the man did her wrong all right.
Matter of fact he didnt do much at all it seems.
For the longest time I always thought the line was
"Walk through the door and love me like you did before"
I literally would sing the song that way until a girl explained the lyrices were
"Hoping soon that you'll walk
Back through that door
And love me like you tried before"
Amazing how one word can change the whole song. A prime example of the male of the species having selective listening capabilities.
Oh well Viagra was just a dream back then
It seems like their is a debate on this song as I looked it up on the Internet. Is the man impotent or is the woman frigid? Another reason to like the song anyone who can put ambiguity into a 3 minute pop song is pretty cool. I would have swore that it was tne man who was impotent but when Freda first read the song she said Im not singing a song that says Im frigid.
