They're in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. - Contributions will be accepted....

And here i was thinking that classic movie quotes would be included in a "best" list... what about the "we'll always have blah-blah-blah and this is the start of a wonderful friendship" from Casablanca, Gable's "frankly, I don't give a damn" from GWTW, Dirty Harry's "make my day punk, I know what you're thinking" routine, Taxi Driver's mirror soliloquy, Easy Rider's "little green men" campfire scene, most of the dialogue out of Hal Hartley's movies, especially Trust, Surviving Desire and Simple Men, "I don't think we are in Kansas anymore", The "parsec record on the correlian route" dialogue in Star Wars, also from Spielberg: "We'll need a bigger boat" and so on...
Your list is highly interesting but it's more your favourite movie quotes than really the best quotes ever, isn't it ?
Well, the list is far from complete, and you are right, some of the movies listed are the ones I like, but as I say in the end, all contributions are accepted. But I have to admit that maybe I went to far with the tittle, but the idea was to have people looking the list, and it works... Thank you for looking it
"Your list is highly interesting but it's more your favourite movie quotes than really the best quotes ever, isn't it ?"
Aren't all "best" lists a reflection of people's own tastes? And therefore any "best" list is merely a collection of one's own favorites? The quotes that make the cut on your list seem by and large to be the most commonly quoted, whereas the quotes on jaundaf's list seem to be those that affected him (or her, I don't know) personally. They're both good lists for different reasons, and they're both "best" lists.
As for me, I don't have a lot of favorite quotes, but if I did, they'd probably all be from "Waiting For Guffman."
I just hate you, and I hate your ASS FACE!
Maybe there's only one revolution since the beginning...The good guys against the bad guys...The question is, who're the good guys? (The Professionals)
great list!!!! I'll help you soon
Contributions? Then I'll start with:
Nothing is what it seems. (Don't Look Now)
Fair enough as a subject starter, but "ever"? Most of these are recent films.
i can tell you that of all the great quotes in As Good As It Gets, i would not have chosen the two you did.
Which ones would you choose ??
"It's not true. Some have great stories, pretty stories that take place at lakes with boats and friends and noodle salad. Just no one in this car. But, a lot of people, that's their story. Good times, noodle salad. What makes it so hard is not that you had it bad, but that you're that pissed that so many others had it good"
"Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here."
"People who talk in metaphors oughta shampoo my crotch."
"I'm sorry, but we don't open for the "no sex-odes" until 9am."
to name a few
Thank you for your colaborations, all of them are great
The Playing by Heart quote is stolen. The original quote was said by...no one actually knows, but it went:
"Talking about music is like dancing about architecture."
That's an incredibly famous quote, and it's earliest instances of it being heard were in the 60's, so it certainly predates the movie. Besides, I think the original is better.
"Life has a malicious way of dealing with great potential." (Melinda and Melinda)
Well, as someone is going to do it, it might as well be me:
"Hey, don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love." (Annie Hall)
Then again, you could just quote the whole movie. :)
One more:
"How much courage does it take to leave your child?" (Kramer vs. Kramer)
