The Philadelphia Story. I remember Katharine Hepburn saying it, and I'm guessing Cary Grant did as well.
The "Klaatu" one is from Army of Darkness.
But what movie is the "Klaatu" quote originally from?
As for question #2... that's from The Princess Bride. Mandy Patinkin says it in response to Wallace Shawn's repeated use of the line, "Inconceivable!"
Klaatu... is from The Day the Earth Stood Still
I know it's already been answered, but do I get points for saying that the spoof quote was in Army of Darkness?
Well, technically I was looking for "The Day the Earth Stood Still" but you can give yourself a pat on the back, gold star, or whatever.
But it was a trick question. I was just trying to keep the questions from being too easy.
The Ringo Kid, I Can't Give You Anything But Love, and golf.
M came first, in 1931.
Richard Gere plays the Sax in The Cotton Club.
My fuzzy memory says that Richard Gere pretended to be a cornet player in The Cotton Club (and went so far as to say hello to Cootie Williams on the bandstand.) I think they reconstructed/recreated old Ellington numbers for that movie. I certainly don't remember Gere's embouchure showing any signs of wear and tear, if you know what I mean.
I know that Clint Eastwood used cleaned up original source recordings for Bird so I doubt that Forest Whitaker learned how to play alto sax.
It wouldn't surprise me if Robert DeNiro really learned how to play tenor sax for New York, New York. It also wouldn't surprise me if he got addicted to horse, dropped out of society for a year and a half, practiced his music beneath a bridge and then reappeared as a black man with a ferocious mohawk. That's the sign of a good actor.
Sean Penn's marimba playing in Mystic River was obviously overdubbed.
