So much hype!

    Yes: Surprisingly, this was indeed a great movie, with an engrossing story, perfect soundtrack, extremely creative use of historical footage/events, and simply incredible acting.
  • The Truman Show
    Yes: Deeper than I expected, and well acted. Imaginative and well-written story too.
  • American Beauty
    No: Overly simplistic, and the writers took the standard path, rather than trying to come up with something new to say, or a new way to say it. Still, extremely well acted and filmed.
  • Star Wars
    Yes: Maybe I missed most of the hype, but it seemed to me that the focus was on the diehard SW fans, rather than the movie itself. So the movie lived up to the hype in my opinion -- fun, fit well with the others, and so on. Not the best thing in sliced bread, but in the same league as the others.

There are movies that slip by with hardly a whisper in the popular media, and others that generate more fuss than most small wars. Here are some of the ones that got noticed and my opinions on whether or not they actually lived up to the hype.

I'll come up with more (and please suggest any you can think of) and I'll add them, along with (of course) my comments.
